All of the A400's are known for throwing hulls a country mile. We have a 3.5 Unico and the aforementioned Multitarget and from the factory they will eject shells in excess of 8+ feet to the right. While the Unico's purpose is hunting the Multitarget is our "all around" clays gun and our backup/primary registered trap gun. The plastic TS shell catcher works flawlessly for singles/caps, and by changing the gas valve spring out for the blue one in the set offered by Cole's I was able to shorten the distance/force by which the hulls were ejected thus making it a trap line "friendlier" firearm. I love the balance, feel, and soft recoil of the gun and to date it has cycled everything I have fed it. Congratulations on your new gun and #breakemall!

391-G: Cole Custom Gas Valve Spring for Beretta Semi-Auto (2-spring set)
Did you need a spanner wrench to remove and replace the gas valve spring or were you able to do the change without one?
I just saw that Cole's offers a custom one for ~$40. Ouch!

I used my M-14 castle nut tool to break the nut loose. It worked well without deforming the part or the tool. Much tighter and the story may have been different.
Thanks.
I've owned both the Multi-Target and the XLR-5. In my opinion the XRL-5 is the
better gun. It has a much better trigger, especially if your going to convert
it to a release. Also the gas system is much simpler and easier to maintain.
Also comes with additional forend weight's to change the point of balance.
The five year warranty is a plus. Reliability wise they are equal.

I had gone to the grand to test them side by side with plan to buy an xlr5. The a400 was so much smoother, balanced etc it blew the xlr5 away in my test. the xlr5 seemed hvy and just didn't swing well. I'm loving this a400 multi. JMHO

My A400 only throws 4 ft right now. I have the Cole heavy gas valve spring and the recoil spring only has 2,000 shells on it. I was shooting Aguila 1 1/8 1250s and expected 7-9 ft of ejection. I didn't have any failures or jams. I might pull the spring out to compare with one of my higher shell count springs.

My A400 excel sporting will throw hulls 2 stations over, believe me you wont make any friends on the line, shell catchers are great for singles but when you shoot doubles with it look out, I only use mine now for sporting or skeet so flying hulls is no big deal

I wonder IF some "Smith" could come up with a knock down pin in the barrel like we put into the Remington 1100s to put the empty down and out, instead of straight out to the right ?

Just a thought that one of these guys could make that improvement.

Had one for awhile. Handled nicely and shot good scores with it. But few cons led me to changing to a Fabarms XLR5. Cons were mid bead came loose and was lost almost immediately (Beretta sent new one and I loctited it on), stock wood at attachment to receiver was thin and cracked from factory (Beretta replaced the stock and forend, but shortended me on the quality of wood as compared to the original), and gun seemed to have too much plastic in it. Thus due to my poor Beretta experience with the gun and my concerns for the future longevity of the gun, despite that I shot it good, I traded it and moved on. Good luck with your choice.
