Custom Stocks.. Who's your choice?

Im looking for your opinion on the topic. You're wanting a custom fit stock, who are you going to?

Do you feel that a fitted solid wood stock can reduce felt recoil just as well as a custom stock with recoil reduction such as Pro Soft or Stock Lock?

I've read a lot about Wenig from before it changed hands. People were happy with their stocks. As of late, more people seem to be having an issue with them.

Im on the fence but also on a budget. I'm looking for a basic wood that fits me great.

What does the Trapshooters community say?

A well fit stock will greatly reduce recoil.
A pro-soft or stock lock will reduce it even more.

I would look at the work of the different stock makers, they each have a style they favor.
Make sure you have an understanding of what you want.
Make sure they understand what you want.

I have never been comfortable with a rollover comb.
Some guys seem to put that on every stock.

I had mine done by "Stocker John" Fittinger in Eugene, Oregon. He does beautiful work, my gun fits me better than it ever has and I have more confidence. The recoil reduction from a solid heavier piece of french walnut for me is every bit as good as a more mechanical or hydraulic recoil reduction system and in my opinion looks far better.

Phil Simms did a great job on my prosoft. Regardless what you hear, a prosoft does reduce recoil more than a standard stock. Like West, I can't stand a roll over comb. Never seem to feel like I hit the same place twice. It seems to work for some of the big dogs though and seems to be what a lot of stock makers are going to. Phil will be at the grand, stop in and talk to him and take a look. He'll build what you want, pro soft or not and does a great job. I've had good luck with wenig too. Bobby went out of his way to help.
