Most high end guns you are paying for the time to make them artwork. The insides can only be made so good, after that it is the upgrades in looks of enhancements and jewelry. I consider them artwork. People that not only can afford them, buy them for the same reason as they would any other expensive item. Because they can, and because it somewhat shows status. Need to have may be a possibility, just to look at. Look at car collectors for example, buildings full of cars that they may have driven once, if even that.

I've shot sporting clays with a gentleman who owns a K80 which is highly engraved and filled with gold inlay as well as platinum inlay. Mid 6 figures. He has been known to bounce it off the stand when a miss occurs. I say what the hell, it's his gun. Truly a fine gentleman, never pompous nor disparaging towards others and shoots what he enjoys simply because he can.

Remember, its not how good your score is, but how good you look scoring!?!
An economics teacher posed the question: what is the value of a dollar to a person earning $20,000 per year,
to the value of a dollar to a person earning $2,000,000 per year.
Staying warm in Southern California, land of the anti gunners.
Break them all.

It's just a matter of perspective.
While I still appreciate having $5 in my pocket, if I had $5mil in my pocket, a $200K shotgun is like $20. Many people out there have this type of wealth. The type of wealth that will make more in one month on interest alone than most of the guns being talked about here.
There will always be someone that simply can't justify the cost of something no matter what they have in the bank, certain things are only worth what they're willing to pay but eventually, wealth will override that desire and it will be theirs.

Yeah, because the owner of it will run up to you to make sure you saw it, and tell you how much it cost!!
You’re shooting at the wrong club. I’ve shot with people who shoot $100k + shotguns and they are some of the nicest, most unassuming people you’ll ever meet. Let’s be careful not to stereotype people based on jealousy or envy. You’d be surprised how many millionaires shoot on your squad, and most of them will never discuss finances.

You've blown my joke out of proportion. It was a play on the standard aviation joke...."How do you know there's a fighter pilot in the room? ....... He'll tell you!!"

Now, Lighten up, Francis!!

Sorry about that. As you can tell, I don’t run in aviation circles. Anymore, those comments are typically associated with class-envy nonsense. My apologies.

It probably follows the same pathology of all consumption of luxury items. I would say that the act of acquiring a high end shotgun is in itself the reward.
Exclusivity. The personal fit, the craftsmanship and the feeling of owning a handmade piece from a bespoke shop.

How many are actually used? I honestly don't know, but would guess they are mostly show pieces that are admired among collectors and friends.
I scrimped, saved, traded, bought, sold and eventually ended up with an English "game" gun. Beautiful engraving, great wood, buffalo horn butt plate, and I've used it exactly one hunting trip, killed eleven pheasants. Now it sets in the safe.

That is a good one.
One of my very best female friend's son is an F-18 jockey. Now, while he won't ever volunteer that information, his MOM sure will!
Good for him, quite an accomplishment!!

I started OCS and Flight school in Pensacola in 1995 , I really need to retire soon......I just cant figure out what I want to be when I grow up!!

(I also served 4 years enlisted in the USAF.)

By your screen name, I take it you live in WV? I'll be out there tomorrow for a Tower Shoot for pheasants, bring it on over and I'll borrow it!!

This post is very interesting. I shoot with two very wealthy guys at my club. One is a retired car dealer, who had three dealerships at one time and whose wife is into real-estate. He has four Krieghoffs, did have six, but sold two. The one he shoots on a regular basis cost him $25 or $30K. The other guy is a MD. He is the Department head of one of the surgical units at the local hospital. He has two Tristars. One is the old style combos and the other he just purchased is the newer style over under with the adjustable recoil system and drop triggers. Shoots them very well. In fact he consistently shoots 24’s and 25’s with the new one. Both are average “Joes” and are just part of our gang that shoots on Saturdays. One of our younger guys who is single and makes quite a bit of money as a Union Lineman working the high towers with the large transmission lines ( High Voltage) shoots a KX6 and a K80, has been trying to convince the Doctor to get rid of his Tristar and upgrade to a $20K Krieghoff. Doc, as we call him, keeps telling the young guy ” I don’t need a big expensive gun to shoot. I shoot this one just fine”
My point is whatever floats your boat or suits your budget. Whatever you can shoot well.
Breakem all!
Chief

Is this kinda' like paying 20k for a High Tech RS combo that is really worth 5k.

Like I just did.

As long as we, US consumer's continue to pay Perazzi's price increases, we'll always pay their price.

Krieghoff the same.

But like the gun's.

I guess it's like a Ferrari and Benz, if you like em' you'll pay stupid price's for them.
