A few months ago, I found a great deal on a solid old B 80 that was a bit rough but worked perfectly.
I have since decided to use a little BC Aluminum Black on the aluminum receiver, but it will not penetrate
the layer of wax that I had administered right after purchase.

I have used a number of products including acetone, denatured alcohol and brake cleaner, to no avail.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Never heard of putting wax on a gun but have you tried heating the receiver with a hair dryer to see if the wax might melt off and/or soften up enough for the cleaner to penetrate and work.
That is my only guess, good luck.

Renn Wax contains some polyethylene wax which protects well but is a beast to remove. It's also why no gun cleaning ingredient actually dissolves wad plastic. One suggested protocol is to use plenty of mineral spirits (Stoddard Solvent i.e. Kingsford charcoal lighter fluid) and plenty of wipes. The problem is not in lifting the wax, it's getting it off the surface once you do. Wipe the wet solvent in 1 direction, 1 time only before changing wipes. Aromatic hydrocarbons like mineral spirits, toluene, benzine will plasticize poly to some extent and cause it to loose some of it lose it's "grip" on the substrate. They will not dissolve or degrade it.

I once talked with some reenactors at a Renaissance Fair who use it to protect their armor and their "weapons". THEY suggested that, when necessary, they remove the stuff mechanically instead of chemically by using either toothPASTE, NOT gel, like Colgate or a fine metal polish paste like Auto-Sol, Simichrome or Flitz and keeping the applicator (cloth, whatever) fresh as removed wax will build up on it and be re-deposited

Good luck in any case!
