One thing to think about...
Ensure that whatever hole you attempt to drill, stays perfectly perpendicular to the rib.
There are jigs and fixtures that stock makers use to do this correctly.
Working on a stock is more than simple woodworking, and this is particularly important, so by all means, get it right!

It never hurts to have an extra stock, So, if you can afford it, you may want to consider picking up a second stock and see that it fits.
It's funny how these damn things accumulate. Much like shotguns, I started with one, and now have a dozen.
I used to have one stock per gun, and now I have more than that :)

Effected a repair today. My (retired) friend and I were able to remove the old hardware, drill out the old epoxy and re-install with JB weld. The brass plates were 1/4" thick by 7/8" diameter. Glue was everywhere. I'm guessing it came loose on the previous owner, he got it where he wanted it and glued the crap out of it. My friend had the idea to extract the insert with a bolt, socket and fender washer, worked like a dream and no heat needed. I'll get a pic of the set-up posted later. We drilled out the remaining glue with a forstner bit. I put wax around the nut to prevent the same glue everywhere issue.
I still haven't shot it yet, but expect that at some point it will fail again. When that happens I will get new hardware or a new stock. Thanks for all the advice.
