I only speak from "sperience". I load 1 oz using the 1205 and it's a tight crimp in a RIO.
Titewad is one of the BEST 1 1/8th oz powder out there, especially for the AA HS hull.
It is also one of the densest powder available.
I can't comment on Eurotrash hulls, I've never reloaded any hull that doesn't have
a Brass base.

"I am loading rio hulls and gunna buy either universal or titewad..."

That's an interesting choice of powders if you really mean one OR the other.

Titewad is a fast burning powder that's ideal for one ounce target loads and 9/8 oz. target loads running 1150 fps. Universal Clays OTOH, is a significantly slower burning powder whose best use includes once and a quarter oz. hunting loads. You won't find very many target loads for Universal. If that's your goal, Universal is a poor choice.

FWIW, Hodgdon's online loading center doesn't list any one ounce or 9/8 oz. loads for Universal in Cheddite (Rio) hulls.

Stick to your reloading guide, that's all I'm saying. Everyone thinks their personal recipe is the best and it only becomes more confusing when listening to everyone else's personal recipes.

Hey guys my local sportshop only carries Cheddite 209 and Cci 209 primers, would i be able to substitute a cheddite 209 for other primers listed in various load data? Many loads i have are the usal win, fed, cci, exc... I am loading rio hulls and gunna buy either universal or titewad powder, only being iam gunna go back to usi g 1 1/8oz loads with pt1220 and pt1205 wads.... What say you???

There are published recipes for 1oz loads using Universal powder and cheddite hulls, as i currently load one, now these are not 1100fps target loads but more like 1365fps dove and fast sporting clay loads. Makes a good powder for these kinds of loads. And i want tite wad to loads some 7/8oz and 3/4oz target loads for trap. And there is nothing wrong with Rio hulls, yea they may not last 10 reloadings but if i can get 2 reloading maybe 3 i am happy, plus i can get thoes all for free cause i work on a clay range...

And there is nothing wrong with Rio hulls
This thread was started by you, because you can't get the right components to use in Rios. Look at the data for the components you can get, then look at what hull they will go in.

It would seem to me, that a reloader would look at the final shell and specification they desire, then work backwards to get all the components needed to achieve that load.

I've already gone down the Rio reloading path, and I found out after 10k or so, it just wasn't worth all the issues.

Marbax, that is what i usally do but in this case i already have prob 3000 rio hulls i picked up from the clay range and i just was curious as to how a cheddite 209 compared to a rio 209 primer. I have all the proper componets for reloading the rios except i cant find rio primers in my area a i have a good many cheddite 209 primers i could use is all. So why not try and use up what i have you know.

Get the Titewad. Universal is a poor choice of powder for 12 ga. target loads. The powder charges are heavy making is much less economical than other, faster, powders. Universal's "sweet spot" in 12 ga.is in heavy field loads.

And there is a reason why there are so many Rio hulls on the ground. Other hulls are much better for reloading. My hunch is there probably are also a good number of Rem Gun Club or Clay and Field hulls on the ground as well. I would put the Rios back where I found them.

Nebs, there are a few gun clubs but not many. The cheap walmart promo shells make up the majority. I have close to 200 gun clubs but i was just gunna reload the rios once or twice then toss them. Ballistic Products have them for 30 for 1000 gun clubs but they are currently out of stock.

I'll beg to differ there MG. My manual is full of Universal loads for the SW and a few taper hulls loads too. They are somewhat higher charges than Titewad in grains used. The only thing about Titewad I don't like in 9/8 loads is ya can't load much past 1200 fps without running into pressure problems. Titewad may be one of the best powders for 9/8 loads, but the OP said he was using RIO hulls.

I respect any reloaders choice of components. I have reloaded shotshells and metallic for almost 45 years. Back in the day, the only hulls (once fired) one could readily find was the target hulls, mostly AA and Remingtons. We didn't have the many choices we have today. We typically paid 8 cents apiece back then. Today, because of more shooting, the cost has come down, but it still ain't free, like all the SW hulls I use. I have also found I can load just as quality a shell in any SW (eurotrash to you) as those in the club that insist on loading only the coveted Premiers or Nitros. I don't load any hull but once, and it's in my trash, I don't put them in the bins. It ain't as much the shell as it is the dude behind the trigger. I shoot as well as most at the club and better than many, and I do it with an infinite supply of free hulls.

If there is a cheaper hull than the Rio, I'd like you to show it to me.
I take pride in my reloads and it doesn't take one second longer to load a
quality type hull. The're are no quality primers that fit the Rio hull &
other than there are millions around because NO one wants them, I see absolutely
no reason why anyone would waste there time reloading them. The're JUN

Excuse me Dirt stirrer,
I'll repeat myself, Universal has No loads printed! Not even by Hodgdon and they
are the manufacturer! Look on the right side of the Hodgdon reloading data, "Step (6).
Universal isn't even listed.

Opinions and a$$holes, MG. But I honestly can't see a difference in my shooting and the others who shoot the crusty AAs or Remmies, because they feel like they need to get the maximum reloads out of a purchased hull.

I stated plainly, I respect any reloader's choice of components, you apparently don't.

I take pride in the shell I load, and when I have handed shells to someone at a station that ran out, they say "I thought you werew shooting reloads". They can't tell the difference.

You said that you wanted to load 1 1/8th oz loads. Not your talking about 1 oz.
Which is it?

The only straight walled hull that I load is the Federal Gold Medal.
