Hey guys my local sportshop only carries Cheddite 209 and Cci 209 primers, would i be able to substitute a cheddite 209 for other primers listed in various load data? Many loads i have are the usal win, fed, cci, exc... I am loading rio hulls and gunna buy either universal or titewad powder, only being iam gunna go back to usi g 1 1/8oz loads with pt1220 and pt1205 wads.... What say you???

If you call the powder manufacturer, and ask to speak to a ballistic tech, you will get the answer you need. I spoke to a Hodgdon tech years ago, when Cheddites first became available in this area, and was told I could substitute straight across for Winchester primers, which was my question. Substituting Cheddites for other primers required adjustment of the powder charge.

I really think that your going to have primers falling out of those hulls using either.

As The Pheasant Master has alerted you too, Both of the Primers that you are speaking about
are to small for the Rio hull. The Rio Hull has the Largest of the primer pockets and your trying to
use some of the smallest sized primers on them.
I would recommend using the Rio Primer for those hulls, there cheap as well.

Titewad ain't the best powder to use for 9/8 loads, and I'd also think those hulls are gonna be packed so tight using the 1205 and 9/8 oz lead you might get tenting at crimps after they sit a bit, 1220 a better choice IMHO

The cheddites i have i can push into the rio hulls with my thumb but it is a snug fit and i tried to knock the primer out but seems they will stay in there. Rio primers are inaccessible to me and i refuse to pay a hazmat fee, the cost of components are high enough as is.

Yea also a tight crimp in Federal Gold Metal hulls aswell.
Dirt Stirrer, i just load for fun so the time it takes me to load a few hundred rounds doesnt mean much to me, plus its time i get to myself so if i happens to take longer to me thats actually a bonus. But on the other hand i dont mosey around either. I have been loading for metallic cartridges for about 16yrs but just more recently have started reloading shotgun shells not to save money just for something different.

How far of a drive is it to your next nearest "sportshop"??
Order what you really like and pay for shipping?
