DRRF8 is pretty much 99.9% of my reloading. I never had a FTF or off sounding shell with them, never. That included a crap load of Gun Clubs loaded with them. You can blame the wads if it makes you feel better, but I'm guessing there was something else wrong.

19.3 grains of Green Dot
DRRF8 Wad
Winchester 209 primer
1-1/8oz of #8's
STS/Nitro/Gun Club hulls
That is my load right there....only a few thousand but they go boom and never heard a pop!

As most above, I've loaded 1000s of GCs 90% with the TGT wad as I usually only load 7\8. I use OEMs or mostly CBs clone. Too much trouble with DR. As the old saying goes--if you are considering giving berth (not birth) to this person\product, make it a WIDE one. I load on Pacific machines and they work better if the wad guide is deep enough in the hull to open the mouth SLIGHTLY. Have used AA & clones--Power Pistons\TGTs & clones. Ross Puls

Used to buy ClayBuster "White 8s" for any loads I put in Remington (STS,Nitro) hulls. They always went off without a hitch, but when loading Nitros, out of nowhere I'd occasionally (maybe 10 out of a thousand)get a crushed shell. When I'd cut them open, they appeared normal. It might have been a coincidence, but when I couldn't get "White 8s" I had to switch to ClayBuster AA clones for my STS and Nitro hulls, the crushed shells disappeared and now I don't bother looking for "White 8s" anymore.

At the risk of starting a pissing match again, my Mec 9000E has a distinct snap sound pushing the CB figure 8 wad through the wad fingers, where the DR gold colored figure 8 is smooth as silk. There is a tiny height difference, but with all my gun club fun I got that issue adjusted out. I only load a touch over 16 grains of E3 powder. The wad cup on the CB appears to be thicker and taller both as I recall. I have almost a full case of the CB wads, and will use them up in my Spolar which seems to digest them easier. I will stick to DR on the Mec and any future purchases.

I could not identify that new snapping noise at first, but after paying very close attention, it became obvious where it was coming from. I was relieved that was all it was, nothing else to fix or adjust thankfully.

Didreckson,

I agree with your observation in the difference in tickness of CB wad petals and I found somewhere once the CB clone can result in slightly higher pressures than the original brands that the CB is cloning. If I can locate that info, I will post. The differences in pressure are not overly significant, but do exist.

I am not opposed to a goofy thread but this time I am serious. I KNOW a lot of you use Figure 8 wads. I have too. I do not particularly like them--and don't intend to use them again. I tried them several times over the years in Gun Club hulls with less than adequate success. It seems that Gun Club hulls are "rough" on the inside and I get way too many cocked wads no matter what loader I am using (Mec PW Dillon Spolar). Results are always a off sounding shot. I think it has something to do with the center post being so small allowing the shot cup to tilt causing the powder cup to deform. I have cut several open and it's always the same--deformed powder cup.

What do you think is the advantage of the design? What is the advantage of the "post" construction? Is the design just a marketing ploy? Why does the NEW Clay and Field shell have the old style "power piston" if the shell is the latest greatest?

Thoughts???
Jim
I have had the case of the TGT12 having a pedal folded over by the shot tube when loading on a Dillon. This will cause the results that you are experiencing. Just a thought....

The only issue I have is on the 8-petal I sometimes try to put one of the petals into a drop tube. Other than that, TGT and F8's are all I use in anything green.....

I have not used fig.8 in at least 10 yrs. never had a problem with them except cost .Used TGT wads since the late 80's no problems for 1 oz.& 7/8 oz. loads. The only trouble with GC Greens was they didn't last as long as the black GC'S .They seemed to start cracking at 7 or 8 reloads. Still have about 4000 black GC's once fired and about 2000 close to throw away stage . We have shot about 6 flats of the 10 new GC"S we purchased this year . With the local Gander MNT. shutting down we have purchased flats of rios , estates , federals ,GC ,win AA and at Cabellas -BP'S & Herters cheaper than I can stuff them . I will have enough empties till I die. Now if shot just comes down in price I'll be set . The only hull I ever had trouble with the wad sticking was the Green Rem. Premier hull I had 5000 emptys they gave me so much trouble loading I gave them all away . No matter what wad I used it kept sticking played heck on my loaders. Never did find out why . (all three loaders were less than 1 year old.)

I had a loud snapping noise coming from my old 800B and cocked wads, plus bad crimps. Changed the wad guide fingers and spring in the wad guide and the problems have disappeared. The wad guide fingers showed not obvious broken issues. Cheap change out and it worked for me.
