Has anybody loaded handicap loads (1250fps) loads with the figure 8 wads.? Alliant shows a load using a Remington primer. I currently use the rxp wad but I'm out and can't buy them locally. I think I can get Remington primers for the fig 8 wads. With the bulk of green dot does it crimp well? Thanks for the info before I go buy expensive Remington primers. My current load is rem hull win primer 21.7gn green dot and an rxp wad

Wow, that half grain of powder sure does make a big difference in terms of velocity and pressure. I read you post as asking whether you can sub in the Win primer in place of the Rem primer. I would knock the powder down an half grain if I was doing that because the Win primer is hotter than the Rem primer. Not a lot hotter but given how the load seems to approach its limits with just a bit more powder, I would be cautious.

From the RCBS Shotshell reloading handbook, page #206. STS/nitro hull, Fio 616 primer, 22.0 grs Green Dot, RXP12 wad and 1 1/8 oz shot=1,250 fps at 9100psi. I talked to Ben at Alliant about using the Fig 8 as a substitute for the RXP12 and he said not a problem. this load shoots extremely good from the 27. It Chronographed for me at 1,232-1,235. Bill

Alliant used to publish data for Fig-8 and W209 primers. Here is the data. STS or GC hull, W209 primer, Fig-8 wad and 9/8oz shot

19gr GD 1145fps, 8100psi
20gr GD 1200fps, 8600psi
21.5gr GD 1250fps, 10700psi

FWIW, that much GD with a Fig-8 wad has some crimping problems.

This is my exact yardage load with 20.0 grns.
