My son and I are going on a bear hunt in Saskatoon Saskatchewan and we need bug suits or some method to repel the bugs, flies etc. Anyone had a good experience with combating these bugs, flies? Thanks, Jerry

We use them on bear hunts in Newfoundland. DO NOT SKIMP. Make sure you get a quality suit that zippers the seams closed tight. The flies will find any little opening and get you. Bring tape to seal around your wrists and cuffs. Good luck.

Jerry, I have used a product called Thermacell while spring bear hunting in New Brunswick. No suit needed. I used the earth scented refills. Everyone in camp was using them and they really work. The scent did not seem to bother the bears. The bugs stay away. Amazing...Enjoy your trip. Good luck!

Lots of "Deet" or the highest percentage you can fined in a spray. In Vietnam we got the little green military bottles of the stuff and the bugs would do a 180 when they got close. Maybe, add a fine head net from Midway. But then, I've never used a full body suit, seems like a hassle.

Therma-Cells work great for us. We also have bug suits that we take along, but 2 therma-cells, 1 on each side of us in stand and we are 99% good to go as long as no heavy wind is blowing.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Have acquired the thermocells. Gonna take bug suits as well and bug spray to cover all the basis.

Thanks again and I will post some results after
The trip.

What's a little bug bite.

Man up and show those pesky bugs that they can't scare you out of the woods.

If he bites you on the left cheek, turn the cheek. If he bites you on the right cheek, turn it again.

If they are painful and really start to hurt, pull your pants up so them pesky bugs can't get to your cheeks!

Hope you get your bear!

On the way home from saskatuwan after a week long black bear hunt. My son killed a 450 pound beast at 8 yards with bow. Beautiful animal. I killed a chocolate bear about 250 pounds at 11 yards with a bow. Great hunt, highly recommended.
As far as the bug suit goes. I recommend at least a head net and bug spray and a Thermocells. The Thermocells work great as long as the wind is not blowing. Thanks for all the suggestions and if you have this trip on your bucket list, make it happen it's very worthwhile.

I have spent countless hour in the field and I have found that a head net is about all that is needed. I have found that bugs will get in your face except if you have a head net taped on. I also found out the mosquitoes won't bite if you are wearing fleece. There is something about the fleece that these b-tards don't like and either don't or can't bite through.

Congrats on a successful hunt with your son.
