Why buy the Winchester Universals when you can buy the Winchester Super Targets? The Super Targets around here are $5.50 a box which would be $22 for four. The Universals here are only just a bit cheaper. Super Targets work great for 16 yard.

I haven't had a bit of trouble with Winchester Universal 7-1/2 shot in my Mossberg 590a1. It chews them up and spits them out with accuracy. I'm not seeing what others are saying.
Why do brand new forum members go dig up 3-4 year old threads to make their first post? This thread is from 2013.

I have no problem at all with them...work as well as the Walmart Feds..only complaint is the plated steel heads in warm weather tend to swell and get sticky
All steel has the same thermal coefficient of expansion. What that means is that if your shells and your gun are at the same temp, both the shell heads and the gun's chamber will increase in size the same amount/at the same rate. In the real world, your gun's chamber is generally somewhat warmer than the shells (from shooting), so it will increase in size to a larger degree than will the shell heads. The shells should be looser, not tighter.
Bottom line: shell stickiness is not temperature-dependant.

I opened several of these Winchester Universal shells and the shot was ... so soft there were clusters that were formed together.
I can guarantee that there will be no "clusters" in the shot column when it comes out of the muzzle.

Because thats about the time they were booted from the site and just found they can post again. IMHO Things must still be slow and repetitive at the dark side.

Winchester Universals look like Winchester Super-targets, but I've had Winchester folks tell me the components in Super-targets are much better. He was also aware, and unhappy, that the Super-targets suffered because of the look-a-like Universals. Universals were produced to get a big-box contract. But the last time I looked, WalMart had Super-targets not Universals on the shelf.

Ever hear the term "thermal mass"? Ever contemplate the concept in relation to your just expounded theory of stick? I thought not.

MOST guns work well with most promo ammo.

I guess I am lucky with my primary Sporting guns. None of my three O/U's, with seven barrels, get indigestion with any steel hulls. Blaser four barrel set, Beretta Gold Pigeon two barrel set (28 and 410), and 12 ga Beretta SP1 backup gun. However, they almost never see factory ammo. I load mostly steel headed shells in all four gauges. It is simply what is left on the ground at my ultra-high volume club.

However, one of the Beretta 391 loaners, a 20 ga, gets terminal indigestion with Winnie promos, sometimes requiring disassembly to remove fired hull. It has suffered broken parts with this ammo, a locking block and bolt slide. (OUCH$$). Good thing I am a gunsmith.

Seems the Federal promo shells give the fewest problems.

...sounds like a bunch of liberals on this site looking to attack anyone that doesn't buy in to their group think mentality. Sorry, for invading your safe space and bursting your fragile little bubble on a topic you thought was dead and settled. The information posted here about Winchester Universals is inaccurate, so the issue needs to be brought up again. Perhaps, the problems you were having were with your gun, and not the ammo. If your gun is so picky that it only accepts top quality ammo, then perhaps you need to put the pretty little thing in a glass case for looks and go out and get a practical weapon fit for combat. These are the same type people that put a bunch of fancy junk weight on their weapons and try to call it tactical.
Spew on puppy dog.

Sorry, for invading your safe space and bursting your fragile little bubble on a topic that you thought was already dead and settled. The information posted here about Winchester Universals is either inaccurate or one-sided, so the issue needed to be brought back up again. I'm pretty sure their are plenty of other people like me considering whether or not they should try a box of these cheap American shells, only to read that they'll either get stuck in your gun or shoot off into left field somewhere. Perhaps, the problem some of you are experiencing are with your gun, and not the ammo. If your gun is so picky that it only accepts top quality ammo, then perhaps you should slap some lipstick and heels on the pansy little thing and go find yourself a real workhorse. If you want to get me banned for giving an honest and reasonable opinion, go ahead. Merry Christmas.
What the hell do you know about this site? You joined yesterday.

Who cares? Are you some type of follower? Swinging from the man's you know what?
You don't have to be jerk! And don't try to come across as a victim.

Feel free to like anything you want, but why come to a board and pick a fight right out of the gate? You come out swinging and throw a hissy fit about it? Post anywhere like that and you'll get skewered. That's internet 101.
