Back in June, I purchased a AR15 barrel from Anderson rifles (with a supposed lifetime warranty). Being in the middle of skeet season I didn't have time to do much with the gun, so I put it together and stuck it in the corner.

In October, I finally had a chance to sight the gun in and play around with it a little bit. It was then I noticed that I was having some issues with the brass coming out rough looking:

I contacted Anderson and advised them that I might have an issue with the chamber. After getting deflections and runarounds, I purchased a USB endoscope from Ebay, and sent them the following pictures of the chamber:

At that point, with pretty clear evidence of a defective barrel, I was able to get them to send me a replacement and a call tag for this one. This is what I rec'd as a replacement, better but still not great:

Not finding this one to be acceptable, I emailed Anderson back, and requested to be able to return both barrels (together) and simply be issued a refund so I could buy another barrel. This was accepted by Tim Poteet on 11/18. Barrels were delivered back to Anderson 11/23. Once the barrels were rec'd, instead of issuing a refund as agreed, another barrel was sent in error. I spoke with Anderson, rec'd a call tag, and sent this one back too, again with the agreement that I'd receive a refund. Barrel was rec'd back @ Anderson 11/6. After corresponding with Anderson a number of times to verify that the return was rec'd, and that the refund was processed, I rec'd an email today from Anderson stating that they will not be issuing a refund since too much time has passed. I spoke with them on the phone, and it's not immediately clear whether they believe that I do or do not have any of their barrels from the multiple back and forth, so as of today I have zero barrels and zero dollars.

I will be filing a chargeback with my CC company, however due to them taking two months to resolve(?) the issue, I may be out of luck that way as well.

So bottom line, buyer beware with Anderson, their quality is spotty at best, and they're willing to jerk around a customer for almost two months because they want a hundred bucks back for a defective barrel.

I think, in general, Anderson is not the place that many people would go if they want top quality.

It's pretty much "blaster" type stuff. It will work in a pinch, but it's not a brand I'd consider.

If I were putting an upper together and didn't want to pay for "precision, match quality" but nonetheless wanted a decent barrel I'd get a PSA CHF barrel.

V10- At the time my options were pretty limited, as I needed a non-threaded barrel due to NYS law, and didn't want to spend 300 bucks for custom. There are a couple other barrels out there now that this can be replaced with, just need my money back to do so.

Did this come up on your search? DSI 5.56 16" M4 Carbine 1:9 Non-Threaded Nitride Barrel

I have no experience with them. But that site came up as a possibility when I searched ar15.com just now for "non-threaded barrels."

A poster there indicated that they were "good to go." But I'd suggest doing additional research before purchasing.

I just spoke with Michael, and he is going to work on getting a refund to me via check.

It appears that there was a series of disconnects and confusion/miscommunication between multiple employees of Anderson which ended up leading to this situation.

Will post back when the situation is resolved.

How timely. I watched Anderson's no-lube AR advertisement on the Outdoor Channel last weekend and then read the info on the website. I e-mailed Anderson and asked what MOA they guaranteed. I received a reply on Monday from their gunsmith saying "We do not have a guarantee for MOA on our rifles. The reason for this is that to many factors play into shooting MOA. Now If you ask me will they will shoot MOA absolutely. You will not out shoot the barrel. But we do not guarantee MOA. "

The length of time your CC will charge back depends on the particular card. I believe that six months are standard. I would suggest you start the resolution with the CC now, and not wait any longer to see if they are sending you a check.

Funny you mention that Max.

Dispute has been started, and now that Anderson knows it, the offer of a check is no longer on the table until the dispute is resolved. I can see it from both sides (not wanting to refund me twice), but it's still kinda BS since I told them I would cancel the dispute once a check was mailed (i know the cardholder can cancel a dispute).

Apparently the email I sent which stated the dispute had been started had not been read until after they agreed to send me a check.

Guess the saga drags on.

It doesn't take too long for CC company to handle a dispute case, they'll generally issue a conditional credit until the case is closed.
If they agreed with your claim, the credit will be permanent, if they don't, they'll charge you back on your next statement.

Steve- It was a debit run as credit, so I'm not sure how it will be handed. The last chargeback I had was last year and the company refunded me before the card stepped in, beyond that it's been quite a few years since I had to do one.

Other than scuffing up your brass, how did the barrel shoot? I have polished out a chamber by pouring a lead plug and hand turning it with lapping compound, but generally of the rifle is running fine, I do not worry about scratches on the brass. I scrap the brass after the 5th use anyway.

Joe- That pic shows a large burr at the gas port hole.

Leo- It actually had potential to be a shooter. I only put a mag of shells throught he gun on paper to sight it on, the last group of 5 @ 50 yards had four touching and one slightly off. As deep as the grooves were I suspect the chamber would have been out of spec by the time I polished it enough to remove them.

I have made several purchases from Anderson and the only problem was a lower parts kit was missing the trigger. A phone call and all was good.
