I was adjusting the combs of my Teknys and a BT-99 (High Rib)bat a pattern board. I noticed that the pattern of Optima choke seems more tight than Browning. Is this normal?

The Teknys has an Optima IM and BT-99 has an Invector Plus Full (regular, not extended).

Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of Browning pattern to show. I will do more test next weekend when my other Browning Choke. The shooting is from about 16 yard. The following is Teknys's pattern (before any adjustment)

You can't compare the same Browning or Beretta choke to any other choke. You have to compare the amount of barrel constriction, ( bore dia. minus choke dia. ).
Most guns will pattern fairly close with the same shells if they have the same constriction and no flaws. Jim

Ok. I guess that question should be the comparison of Teknys barrel/choke vs BT-99 barrel/choke combination. I do not know the details of bore diameter and choke diameters off hand. Will look it up to see if I could find them. I would assume most gun should pattern pretty close for the choke types. I am getting additonal browning choked and will do some tests next weekend.

I'm sure we have different choke systems, but I shoot a Browning Citori 725 with the invector DS chokes. I had been using the browning IM choke but recently switched to a Briley IM. On the pattern board the Briley produced a much denser pattern with a smaller diameter of spread. That's what I was hoping for. Interestingly, it raised my POI some. At the club, I noticed better breaks with the Briley. I'm able.to make some good ink balls with it.

I mention this just to confirm what others had said about Browning chokes being more open than other brands of the same labeled constriction. That's to say, what Browning was calling a modified was and is probably more open than other manufacturers modified choke.

The Browning flush mount chokes were developed to give the percentage of shot in a 30 inch circle at 40 yards using modern shot shells plastic wad that have plastic shot cups. The percentage tables were developed with fiber wads with no shot cup. So the constriction is less than what is now considered the norm with most other companies choke constriction.

I have read that the Full choke is the only choke that is pretty close to current constriction of a Full choke.

Yes, Midas chokes are made by Briley and their designations relative to constriction are in line with Briley's.

Begin rant: BROWNING AND EVERYBODY ELSE WHO THINKS THAT CHOKE CONSTRICTION SHOULD BE BASED ON THE ANTIQUATED TABLES OF THE PERCENTAGE OF SHOT IN A 30 INCH CIRCLE AT 40 YARDS. THE STANDARD SHOULD BE THE AMOUNT OF CONSTRICTION. SK .005, IC .010, LT MOD .015, MOD .020, IM .025, LT FULL .030, FULL .035, X-FULL .040. SAAMI STATEMENT? Ok rant over.
