The guy made me a beautiful stock out of my wood -- but it took many many months to get it from him when I had paid 3/4 in advance

Then the finish immediately melted and he blamed the finish chemical producer

I returned it- for him to refinish- and he claimed to have shipped me a stock but all that came was a recoil pad

After 7 months

I am thinking I am going to have to take legal action

Anyone else have these troubles?

Regards from Iowa

Gene

"..The finish immediately melted..". Like how? A stick of butter in a frying pan?

"He claimed to have shipped me a stock.." Your stock? A different stock? Your stock refinished?

"All that came was a recoil pad.." Was the packaged opened? Was it insured?

It sounds like a lot of details of this transaction have been omitted. Are there things you don't want to tell? What really happened?

At this point I am just asking what troubles others have had or are having?

Regards from Iowa

Gene

PS I have a lot of money into this stock-- I wont go into all the other "production problems" but just trying to get the stock back with a professional finish on it

It is nearly June- I wanted to return it last September but he told me to wait for a couple of months because his finish supplier was going to meet with him

I did that - and returned it in the winter so he would be "less busy" and now I still don't have it back and it is nearly 3 months into warm weather

He told me after he had had it for months that he had to go to gun shows and that he didn't have any help and so the winter didn't work out for him to fix this--- then March and April were too humid for the new finish he was applying to work--

So now we are here in nearly June and all the other "problems"

With addition to all the issues during production and time delays- I now haven't been able to use the gun for months/ nearly a year after I paid -- does that seem right to anyone? I can understand he doesn't make any money or fixing his error but geeez

Oh and now he cant afford to ship it overnight, he says it is on his kitchen table--- well I don't want him to ship it overnight-- FEDEX Ground is one day delivery- from where he is-- I just want him to insure it and provide a tracking number

If I send a gumsmith of any kind some work of any kind because of a estimated date return,I don't want no damn excuses of some gun show or something else going on. If its going to take longer than expected call me and explain. But don't give me bullsxxx excuse. That wasn't in the deal. Good business person keeps his word. Bill

I have always said with these kinds of threads, to wait to hear both sides of the story. So that being said, I know that the person being spoken of is on this site.

Maybe a PM, or at least a phone call to Gene is in order to rectify the situation. Right now, even though it is only one side of the situation, Gene is the one without his money, and his stock, for what seems to be an extraordinarily amount of time.

Get the situation ironed out, and once that is accomplished, then come back and explain the situation so that there are no bad vibes out here in the public domain on this particular business. We already know how some of you in particular feel about Gene.

No matter what business you are in, there are going to be situations such as this that arise. How they are handled, has more influence on business than the positive remarks and situations, because there is always a chance you could be the next one.

Again, get this situation taken care of on both sides, so that it is "Water Under The Bridge" so to speak. It will be better for both sides.

Rem puppy-- More than it is worth? You want more details huh? That will help Steve you think? So lets provide a few more details

I paid big bucks for the stock and forearm- which btw he forgot the large palm swell and forgot the beavertail forearm ( had to go back and find the wood and glue another piece on so the forearm was wide enough and cover up with checkering)-- Him forgetting a Large Palm Swell was not fixable

The product did look nice and I posted photos for everyone to see and recommended him to people. But remember it was my wood, nature provided that

So no I didn't get exactly what I ordered, and my guess is he probably subcontracts for parts of his work-- for example one guy told me he does all of his checkering

I also provided the wood- the forearm piece was nearly large enough to make a gunstock from

So legal action is more than it is worth? Add to that 2 years of frustration?

What I did learn is once he has the money- forget about urgency- he is on to a "paying" project.

Life shouldn't be like that--- and although I understand his need for revenue, I cant help but think that he should do the work he was already paid for first

Many people would not have been as nice about this as I have been so far.

Gene

PS I sent a friend over there for an adjustable comb and he ends up with a couple of thousand into modifying his gun- plus the hardware used wasn't what was agreed upon- it was hardware that cost 1/2 as much and although the comb and butt hardware may be as good-- the difference in price between the GRACO and brand X wasn't returned to the customer - a shooting friend of mine who is a Navy Seal

So no ----each of these individual events would have made other people steaming mad and demanding justice--- I so far have been relatively understanding but we have now reached the point where the limit is--

Hey Remdog. Put up a pic of this fantastic work he did for yo after "6 trips to his shop".

Looks like you have a finish problem on the back top of your stock- next to the recoil pad- or is that the photo- on the right side?

Did you provide that wood ?

I never said his work didn't look nice but I will point out how the checkering is very shallow- just like mine btw

Regards from Iowa

Gene

PS- 6 times you went to his shop? for what? I went multiple times also

btw--- I didn't mention this before but I sent a stock and forearm to be buffed== he threw the box away without getting the forearm out of it-- but luckily weeks later it was still in his junk pile outside when I went to the shop

PPS- keep helping explain the situation rempuppy- you are doing well

PPPs- oh I can also tell you about the recoil pad he provided - which was different but less expensive than the one I had ordered--- remind me to in our next rotation

Rem Puppy- if that doesn't help- remind me to refer you to some other customer's legal filings on another deal

We can keep going- as long as you want

Looks like somebody cut the butt off with a bad blade. First time I ever heard to humid in March and April to spray a stock.. I wonder what other stock makers do in those months.....along with body shops and cabinet shops.

6 trips for a 1187 stock? The wood is highly figured. Beyond that, just stuff. How much did that cost you?
