I think I heard somewhere, that Herters are a Cheddite Hull.

I just bought a couple of flats, haven't shot any yet. Hope they work good.

someone will come along here with some knowledge of them, and either make me feel good , or bad.

Not much of a mystery. The case heads have the signature Cheddite stars on them. The box says "Made in Italy." Cheddite has been making ammo in Italy for over 100 years. Practically all their readymade ammo is made in Italy. In the 80's they bought a French plant and that's where most of their hulls and primers are made.

The 16ga stuff is oK for what it is....these days that means usually available. It doesn't cycle my Rem 1100 and that's why I bought it; so I could toss the empties. Not for me. YMMV.

Herter

Has anyone out there shot any of Herter's shells from Cabelas? Performance? Anyone reload them yet. Good, bad or what?

I've been shooting them for a couple of years with no problems. I found by accident my Ljutic would always eject them, while it will not consistently eject other steel based shells I have tried. I don't reload.

I've a bud that shoots them in both 12 & 16ga. [break open guns] at sporty clays w/good success. I get the once fired hulls, reload them perhaps twice and toss them. They are Cheddite hulls w/steel washed heads undistinguished from the Clever Mirage T 1 headed target hulls internally in 12ga. and I've zero issues w/reloading them or their ejecting or extracting afterwards in 12ga. semi-autos. I don't have but break open guns in 16ga., but have experienced no issues there either . I use a MEC 600 Jr. much of the time or VersaMEC as a time killer, so the hulls are getting resized by a ring, not a collet. The MEC collet sizers are adjustable, though many people don't seem to know that, so their reloaded ammo is sometimes not fully sized back down to the original SAAMI spec.
