Can anyone tell us a little about the Kolar Company history..when, where, what were they before "Kolar Firearms"? I understand they designed/ built the Remington 90T but were there other guns? etc..etc..?
Thanks
Over the years I have heard that the Kolar tubes were based on a design by a guy named Jess Briley. Does anyone know how much truth there is to that story. Just curious. Ron
Can anyone mention anything at all negative about Kolar or their guns? I'm trying real hard not to order one!
How's the resale? You rarely see used ones up for grabs.
Is the new .750 bore the way to go?
How about the weight? the Balance?
Adjustments? are they accurate and predictable?
I'm looking for one to be used for Skeet and/ or Sporting Clays? Any recommendations?
Thanks
The standard weight Kolar guns are great for trap and skeet - which are gun up games. They are a little sluggish to some on the sporting Fitasc course. To meet demand and compete with Krieghoff's new K-80 Parcours, Kolar has come out with a new lightweight version. I have picked up this gun, and I must admit - it is nice, super nice. Kolar has hit a homerun with the new lightweight.
I have a 750 bore Kolar for the last few years and it is a fantastic gun for sporting and FITASC. I had a K80 and I like the Kolar better. Pre 64, I am in Mass and I would be happy to meet, shoot and you can give it a try. I tried one at Nationals and that is what made me sell the K80. I think you should try one and see if it suits you.
Kolar has to get on the band wagon and get some big guns shooting their guns as a marketing tool ... Big Leo shooting a Beretta DT-10 sure can't hurt the sales, same goes with the big dogs shooting Kreighoff and Perazzi ... I almost bought a Kolar once but got a better deal on a Perazzi, marketing helped me make up my mind on that one ... I like the looks of the Kolars and would not shy away from buying one if the price was right ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I have a buddy that bought a new Kolar several years ago and he no longer shoots. How hard is it to convert his PULL trigger to a RELEASE trigger? I would like to try this gun on the trap range but need a release trigger. Tom
Bought my Kolar T/S last December and all I can say is this is one heck of a gun. The quality of all the fine details are the best. I called before I bought it to ask some questions and I was connected with Jeff and we ended up having a great conversation for 1/2 hour. We even talked about how the crest of the lion was chosen on the gun. So if your in the market for a now gun I highly suggest Kolar.
Kolar arms are a class act and have been from the start. I bought a new Light Weight Krieghoff back when they first came out. I saw Don Mainland at the Masters skeet shoot {was called something else at that time} and told him I didn't like the gun and I would like to trade it in on a regular weight. He said send it in and we will make a deal which I did and got a new regular weight gun. I called Don and said their is no bill in the case how much do I owe you? He said nothing as I sold your gun for full retail.
I called him another time to order a new gun with 30" barrels when they first were on the scene and he said I am going to send you my barrels to try for a week and see if you like them before you buy.
It doesn't get much better than that.
Yup, once Kolar was in the Krieghoff business. When I wanted to switch to Krieghoff, Kolar sent me a letter offering me a new K-32 for $2000. I still have the letter in my collection of useless paper.
