What recipe do you use for your 12 ga 7/8 loads? I am wanting to develope a 16-20 yard trap load.

    Thanks

I'm using STS Hulls, 16.4 gr. Clays, Win 209 Primers, Claybuster clones of the Win. WAA12L. I've ordered some Downrange wads as the Claybusters sometimes get crooked in my MEC 9000H.

I use these mainly for Cowboy Action Shooting as I prefer 1-1/8 for trap.

STS Hull, 17.1 grains Hogdon Clays, Downrange 7/8 oz (pink) wad, #8 magnum shot, and Win209 primer. This gives a nominal 1200 FPS. Patterns in my Beretta 682 barrels are excellent and, if I do my part, this load crushes targets at 16 yards.

You guys that are using the DR XXL 7/8 oz pinks how are your crimps? I just bought some and I am loading 17.1 of Clays, 7/8 oz of shot in STS hulls and my crimps are protruding out more than I like. Did you have to reset your wad pressure when you went to 7/8 loads?

I have loaded exactly what you describe, Sargon, and I found there was zero need to make any adjustments from my usual but with WW or CB clones of the 12L wad. Best check your powder and shot drops to be certain. All crimps should be adjusted to be roughly the thickness of a dime and relatively flat across the center.....breakemall....Bob Dodd

AA,STS,Gun Club, any primer, 17.2,3,4,5 or 6 of Promo, Claybuster gray 12L, 7/8oz. of 8.5's.

Try the same load as above but put a 20 gauge .135 card in the shotcup (pain in the butt, I know) and 3/4oz. of 8.5's. Quite effective.

16.5gr Nitro100 under CB4100 wads pushing #8 shot in A-A hulls, or 18gr Promo under Downrange XXL (pink) wads pushing #8 shot. VERY effective!

Mine is 17.2 grains of Clays and a Gualandi GU1225 wad in a Fiocchi hull. You can substitute a Federad Top Gun of an Estate hull but do not use any Winchester or Remington hulls as the Gualandi wad is designed for a straight walled hull.

Gualandi wads are available from Graff's. They are a very rigid wad and will not cock.

14.5 grns AA-lite powder,The claybuster 7/8 0z wad, STS hull and "A" primer!!The load shoots soft and I use it for singles and the first shot in doubles with # 9 shot.Around 1150 FPS.I don't think the brand of primer means squat for this load and I KNOW that some on this site think opposite so whatever.I have used the W209,Cheddite,F209,R209 and have ZERO problems!!
