What exactly is Beretta's X-TRA Grain. I've thought about purchasing a Beretta 391 parallel trap, BUT can't get past that the stock is not solid wood. What is X-TRA grain? How does it hold up to the occasional scratch and ding a gun picks over the years? Can it be cut to install an adjustable comb? I'd appreciate comments from those who own or have owned a gun with X-TRA grain. Thanks,
    Tom

It's a regular walnut stock with xtra grain painted on to make it look like a higher grade wood.

Pallet wood stained to make it look better. It is like putting lipstick on a pig.

I would choose the pig with lipstick, over the X-Tra wood. LOL

If the finish chips off, so does the grain. When you cut the comb you will see that the grain does not go through the wood.

X-tra Grain is all that Beretta puts on their standard 391's now. To get
actual wood you have to get the more expensive Teknys. The X-tra Grain isn't
that bad. I know shooter who have that and it seems to hold up. Just don't get
the X-tra wood. That's a painted on finish.
