1. We have added the ability for anyone to 'bump' threads that they have created. This is mainly useful in the classifieds area where posters constantly bump for sale threads to bring it to the top. This allows them the ability to do that without having to clutter the thread with extra 'TTT' and 'Bump' type posts. To bump it, go inside your thread and click on 'Thread Tools' at the top, then select 'bump'. You can bump only once per 24 hour period.

For more detailed information please see this post: Thread Bump Functionality.

Dollar for dollar Rock Island is offering a very nice "original' 1911.

No bells, no whistle, but they work.

Do you want a race gun? A project gun?? Just an 'original' 1911???

If he wants an original 1911 a Rock Island won't do at all. They are one of the better values in a Philippine made POS but it's not a 1911. Sign up on the Colt forum and put a WTB ad and see what comes up.

    SBE,

I agree whole heartedly, but they are a good alternative 'entrance' gun at a very low price.

I'm looking for an original Govt. M1911, not a copy. Thanks!

An original would probably be marked "us gov't property".
    That or a pre-war 1911 will set you back $1,000 - $2,500
    depending on condition.

Dustoff , Try to attend one of the larger gun shows and you will get an idea of what is available and cost. You can then determine how deep your pockets are.

As to my handle, I collect war time M1911's and M1911A1's. Most of my guns are not shooters, but collectable and some pristine pistols. Having said that, I do have some NIB Colt current models, mostly series 70's with a few series 80's. Also dozens of 1940 -- 1970's National Match, gov"t, and Commander sizes. Let me know what you want and the money you have to spend...I probably have several pistols that meet your criteria....

Since your thread title suggests you want an earlier M1911 instead of a later M1911A1 model, you'll find they are more difficult to find in excellent, non-arsenal condition. I have a couple M1911 in better than average condition, and a couple shooter grade M1911's. I will not sell the two I have (both Colt's) in 95% condition. The shooter grades are around 80% or a bit better and have been to the arsenal....Cya

Check out the 1911s from STI - I have the Spartan in 9mm and I'm very pleased with the fit and finish.

Sorry to go off-topic here, but since it concerns 1911's, does anyone know why the Remingtom R-1 is not available in NYS, at least as far as Gander Mountain is concerned?

Might take a look at the Springfield Range Officer. Lot of
    goodies at a fair price.
