I am looking for a 30-06 rifle with good iron sights (accurate) for Bear hunting. I think I would like a remington pump, browning auto, browning lever, etc. If you have something you think I might be interested in send me an email to brian442@yahoo.com. I am located in SE WI.
    Thanks,
    Brian

You should be looking at the Marlin 1895M in .450

Get something clip fed or a side by side rifle.
Get out of truck, load gun walk to stand. Get to stand, unload rifle ,climb to stand. Load rifle. Unload rifle climb down. Load rifle walk to truck. Unload rifle, place in truck.. Drive won road , see bear , say uh oh, put clip in
rifle. The alternative Remington 700 ADL and cuss.

M 1 Well balanced, accurate, lots of backup firepower, more than powerful enough AND a fantastic collectable rifle. Plus you can fit a bayonet for up close work.

Forget the autos, pumps and lever actions.

    Get a .338 instead.

Thanks to all that replied, I decided on using my trusty 870 12GA slug gun instead of trying a new/different gun with such a short time available for practice shooting.

Why iron sites? I shot mine two years ago with a low power scope at 15 feet.

You don't need a scope at realistic shotgun slug distance! 12ga slugs are excellent bear stoppers.

You don't say what sort of bear you are hunting, but I'm thinking it must be the Black version. I have two 30/06 rifles and either one would be fine for Black bear and maybe OK for Brown bear under the right conditions with heavy handloads. However, I would take my Marlin 1895 in 45/70 if I knew I was going after bear. Hornady LEVERevolution ammo will put you over 3000 ft.lbs. of ME, and handloads will take it to around 4000 ft.lbs. of ME. Plenty for either kind.

    Shoot well and often,

    Mark.
