I am thinking about buying a new watch, I was in a jeweler today looking and they had a nice watch that was Swiss made BUT it was not made by a well known company in fact it had the stores name on the face. Should I stay away from this, the only reason I know it ws Swiss is they had a sign.

In '61 while stationed at NAS JAX my soon to be bride bought me a watch at a fairly decent jewelry store (after I purchased her rings). It lasted less than a year and the jeweler I took it to for repair stated the Swiss movement was of very poor quality. Stick with a known watchmaker. I've stuck with Timex ever since. HarryC

Approx. 75% of Swiss movements are made by ETA. They are very cost effective as a base movement. Most store brands just use all ETA movements.

I got my Invicta watches at the link above. Great watches, good prices, auto & battery powered versions, Japanese movements that are flawless.

If the store's name is Tourneau, it may be a good watch. Otherwise, go with a well-known brand. Of course, it all depends how much you want to spend. Baume & Mercier, Tissot and TAG are generally excellent quality watches and a good value for the money. A high-end watch like a Rolex or Breitling will cost about as much as a Krieghoff or Perazzi and hold its value about as well.

some people buy a watch for the same price as a three pack of fruit of the loom boxers and probably buy the watches more often. priorities

I have a Breitling tha I wear when I dress up, but my everyday watch is a
Casio G-Shock. Cost around $60 and it has taken a beating over the years and still works great. It has alot of features, give it a look. Oscar

If you want basic timekeeping, a Seiko or Citizen Quartz is hard to beat.

However, if your Ego needs a bit of tweaking, nothing makes a statement like a Rolex President.

About 5 years ago I too wanted a new watch.

But there were certain things I wanted this watch to have.

In short, I wanted a solar Atomic watch. It is powered by the light and it's time is set by the Atomic Clock three or 4 times a day.

There are a lot of them out there and they are not all that expensive.

You seldom ever have to worry about the battery running down, (mine never has) and you no one can ever argue that your watch isn't telling the right time. They are always accurate to a second or less.

I wear a rolex gmt master 2. I also wear it while shooting. I have had it for 15 years and it has been a great watch. You get what you pay for. Good luck!

BULOVA OR SEIKO. My wife bought me a Seiko Divers watch in Hawaii in 1974, it still keeps thr right time, she bought me a Bulova Marine Star in 1983 and it still keeps perfect time. Woody

If you want a very precise watch, look no further than a Casio Wave Ceptor: solar powered and synchronizes with the atomic clock in CO several times a day. Price is well under $100.
