I came across this today and thought some might enjoy this. Maybe we culd clon him in a few other areas.

    Break em All

    Rick DeMerle

    Sheriff Joe Arpaio
    (In Arizona)
    who created the
    "Tent City Jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

    Then He Started
    Chain Gangs For Women
    So He Wouldn't Get
    Sued For

He took away cable TV Until
    he found out there was
    Federal Court Order
    Required Cable TV For Jails.
So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again
Only Let In The Disney Channel And TheWeather Channel.

When asked why the Weather Channel
    He Replied,
    So They Will Know
    How Hot It's Gonna Be
    While They Are Working
    My Chain Gangs.

    He Cut Off Coffee
    Since It Has
    Zero Nutritional Value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This Isn't
    The Ritz/Carlton.
    If You Don't Like It,
    Don't Come Back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

    More On The Arizona Sheriff:

    With Temperatures Being Even Hotter
    Than Usual In Phoenix
(116 Degrees Just Set A New Record),
    the Associated Press Reports:
About 2,000 Inmates Living In A Barbed-Wire-Surrounded Tent Encampment
    At The
Maricopa County Jail Have Been Given Permission To Strip Down To Their Government-Issued
    Pink Boxer Shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached
    138 Degrees
    Inside The Week Before.

Many Were Also Swathed In Wet, Pink Towels As Sweat Collected On Their Chests And Dripped Down To Their PINK SOCKS.

"It Feels Like We Are In A Furnace,"
    Said James Zanzot,
An Inmate Who Has Lived In The TENTS for 1 year.
    "It's Inhumane."

    Joe Arpaio,
    the tough-guy sheriff
who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic
He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 Degrees In Iraq And
Our Soldiers Are Living In Tents Too,
    And They Have To
    Wear Full Battle Gear,
    They Didn't Commit Any Crimes,
    So Shut Your Damned Mouths!"

    Way To Go, Sheriff!
Maybe if all prisons were like this one
there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders.
Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

If you agree, pass this on. If not, just delete it.

    Sheriff Joe Arpaio
was just re-elected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Arizona just paid off another victim family last week!! A victim of joe's henchmen!!!! When you save the taxpayes millions,,,,but turn around and pay out twice the amount Joe has saved as "wrongful death compensation" to the victims familys,,,,Well----its not much of a bargain!!!!!!!!!!

Joe is a "media whore",,,one moment he's arresting someone for stopping illegals,,and then saying,,"being an illegal is not that bad of crime",,,and the next moment,,he's mobilized 150 county deputies to scour the deserts of Maricopa County and comes up with------------ONE *^%%$@# illegal!!!! ONE!!!!! And there are thousands standing blocks away at the nearest Wal-Mart or day labor center!!!!!!!!!!!

Hip, Hip and hooray for Sheriff Joe. Those prisoners don't deserve all the jail toys they enjoy. I.E. weights, unlimited library, computers, unlimited phone calls, air conditioning the list could go on and on. What those people do need is something to occupy their time with a task. Keeps their minds off of why they are there and "whoa is me!" KNow what I mean? We need thousands of more jails just like his and we just might not get the return rates that we have now. I remember seeing his return rate a few years ago and it was low I haven't seen it lately. I think it's great that they keep the population in tents and working for the county. I do not believe however that Joe should get all the free publicity for his next election every time someone wants to interview him about his jail conditions. Sending all those deputys out to catch illegals and coming up with one in that county????????? Hmmmmmmm, must be some of Joes buddies using those illegals as slaves huh? What do you guys think? Dan

Grammie's good about whining about Sheriff Joe so, if you don't like it, run right down there and run against him in the next election and show us how it should be done.
Even with the conditions that everone cries about for the prisoners, they still end up back in there so why bother putting them in the more expensive indoor buildings?

I happen to have a lot different opinion of Sheriff Joe and the MCSO than grammie does ... I say the man (Sheriff Joe) does what has to be done and treats prisoners like prisoners plain and simple ... There have been some problems with a few of the prisoners who have stayed at the confines of Sheriff Joe's deluxe jail and tent city, but no body in there is guilty of anything anyhow, they are all victims to hear them say it ... There are a few who won't get back out on the streets to redo what they did to get in there in the first place and if I try hard enough I'll weep a tear but rather say good riddance and Thanks again Sheriff Joe for one of your guys eliminateing a little scum of the earth ... The law suits are seldom paid because everything goes on an Appeals merry go round when it comes to appeals and pay outs for accidental loss of life victims while locked up for doing nothing ... I hope he gets a few of our Illegals in his jail and show them how good they had it back in Mexico, maybe they will leave and stay gone ... Different strokes for different folks I guess, you gotta love it ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Grammie, Does your county not have insurance that is paying these awards anyway? Is your main complaint that Joe is costing you money or is it the way the scumbags are treated when they are in the jails? As long as it isn't costing the tax payers money other then the insurance premiums then what is the problem? Even if it is costing the tax payers money, They do not seem to mind as he has been voted in several times. I wonder if he will run again? Isuspect that the tax payers don't mind paying a little more when they know that the criminals are going to a jail that could be a deterent rather then the country clubs they are in some parts of the country. He's not being sued by "former tenants"!!!! Lets get that straight right off!!

He has been and will be again sued by the "next of kin"!!!

One of the worst incidences was Edward Mallett,,,,a quadrapalegic,,knocked from his wheelchair,,placed into a choke-hold until dead!!! even though he did not have the use of his arms or legs,,the police were reported to have been "in fear of their lives"!!!

A person that would stike a helpless individual is a coward,,,a person that would strike,,tie,,stuff a rag into their mouths and then strap down into a chair are doubly so!!! those that would do the above and then stand and watch as the person dies is as guilty or worse than the criminal.........

The job of the police is to capture,,arrest, detain,,and sometimes to use a weapon to defend him/herself or a citizen in the line of duty!!! The one thing that police are not to be is----the executioner!!! That is for someone else to decide........

I hear you. We just sent two of our cops to jail for serialy raping woman in our town. As they were taken screaming and kicking from the court they were yelling at he other cops of the " code" they had violated. Not all jailers are scum nor are all cops. There are some criminals that have redeeming qualitys as well but all in all bad hires are made and we have to live with the fall out and try to do better. In my town ( Eugene, Oregon) you have to commit a pretty serious crime to serve more then a day or two. The criminals know this and are acting accordingly. Jeff
