The New York Times profiles a by-gone era in motorcycle sport, so different from, for example, the technical wizardry of today's Formula 1 (which, by the way, will be on NBCsport from Monza at 8 AM Eastern time Sunday morning.) Don't miss it! The magical cars, the commentary, the action - it's "reality TV" worth watching!

In 1996, world sporting championships were held at the March estate, Goodwood. The old racetrack was in use for a club day, all kinds of cars present. There was one "sidehack" GP racer there, and you could hear that baby howl all around the track. Catch the "Isle of Man TT races" if you can, very exciting. Believe me, they go a helluva lot faster than 95mph.

Neil do you have any pictures you can post from the "Winston Racers" era. Especially the 750XRs you owned. Thanks Jim.

The success of Formula 1 racing on television is, in large part, due to the group of announcers they have. That combination of Varsha (hopefully he'll be back next season), Hobbs, Matchett, and Buxton is something magical. The races can be pretty much cut and dried at times, but those guys have a way of holding your attention anyway. The video coverage is also excellent. I was concerned when they left the Speed Channel for NBC, but they may be even better.

Looks like Neil is on a Bultaco. The early Bell Star and Pirelli's means it is what, around 1970? Can't make out the other bike. TT Scrambles?

Full face helmets, too. I don't remember them before the early 70's
