    Welcome Shooters,

As many of you have already heard, August 12, 13, and 14th is out Fennville Rod and Gun Club GRAND for 2011. This may be a lengthy post, but please read through it as all events, rules and club updates are listed.

First of all, Some may have heard, but we are currently working on installing a "temporary" (eventually permanent) third range for the summer. "Trap 3" will be installed between the skeet houses on Skeet field 1. The range will contain 23-27 yardages and be primarily used for protections and Sundays Calcutta. This range will be setup for hand-pulling which I will most likely be running.

    Events and Operation:

Protections: Will be pretty standard. All protection sheets will be color coordinated to a specific range. Most are aware of this as we have been doing this for awhile. Protections will be shot on all ranges depending on the 5 man teams. If 5 man teams are occuping ranges 1 and 2, Range 3 will continue to run protections all day. ONE CHANGE TO PROTECTIONS IS: shootoffs will have designated spots. Teams will shoot at the first designated spot..if still tied, move back to second spot. We are hoping to speed up protections by reducing the time of shoot-offs. This really backed us up last year and this will hopefully speed it up. Please have back up shells with you!!!

5 man teams: Sheets have been going around for teams to get signed up. Have the team captain send these in ahead of time or bring them with you to the Grand. A shooter is only allowed to shoot on 2 total teams for the weekend. There won't be any identical teams, as at least one shooter needs to be different. All 5 man teams will be shot on either Trap 1 or Trap 2. We will be paying at minimal (based on number of teams) high team and shooter for Saturday and Sunday with probably 1st and 2nd overall for the two days.

Skeet Tournament: This is a 50 Bird Individual event. Shooters will sign up and shoot two rounds (nearly back to back with short break between) on the second Skeet field. Will have designated shoot-off positions as well in which the shooters will shoot singles from the low and high house, and a double from both houses.

Calcuttas: Standard Calcutta format. 50 bird events will use Traps 1 and 2 while the 75 bird will use all three ranges. For the 75 bird, during the teams second round, the trapper will call for teams to "Switch Shooters" after the 12th bird. At this time, the second man will shoot the rest of the round, the shooters are allowed to change standing postions if desired. Shootoffs will be 10 bird rounds alternation shots (basically half a protection) from the 27 yard.

Schedule Events based on day: (Same as schedule above...sorry for poor quality, couldn't get a fax into Jpeg format)

    Friday, August 12th:

50 Bird PICK YOUR PARTNER!!! We will be keeping the yardage at 16 and 20 as were hoping to get many first timers who are leary of disappointing a partner. Protections will start around 5:00 pm with the cutoff for the calcutta signup being 7:30pm. Would be really neat to fill 8 squads to kick off a great weekend.

    Saturday, August 13th:

The club opens serving breakfast and shooting at 8:00 am. Protections (starting at 8:00 am) will be shot on all ranges in the morning until the 5 man teams start shooting. The 5 man teams can start shooting at 9:00 am and will hold authority over protections on ranges 1 and 2. The skeet tournament begins at 9:00 am and wrapping up early afternoon. A 50 bird DRAW Calcutta will begin around 5:00 pm. This may vary slightly depending on 5 man teams, but with third range, should be relatively accurate.

    Sunday, August 14th:

Club opens at 8:00 am with breakfast and shooting. Protections will begin a 8:00 am with the 5 man teams starting around 9:00 am. A 75 bird DRAW calcutta will start about 4:00 PM.

Shooters are welcome to stick around after the calcuttas to continue playing games (3 guns up, protections, TRAP, back doors, etc)

Please either send me a private message, or reply to this thread with any comments/questions/concerns.

Keep posted for updated pictures of the third range as progress moves along.

I have attached a map to the clubs location is anyone is uncertain. Some are bringing campers...we can try to supply electric to some, but no guarantees.

Great job Rangemaster (Born to Score) but I don't know if folks will find the wmcc with the periods in it. Can you copy/paste with just wmcc (doesn't matter the upper/lower case). I didn't see this just searching on WMCC, but did with a Fennville search.

    Hey All,

Got some very exciting news last night! As I mentioned before, we were installing the third range, so let me update everyone on it.

A few of us started laying out the range and location of the house on Sunday. Got all the stakes ran and yardages marked out while Dan Sprouse started digging a hole. By the end of the day, we had gotten the hole all dug out and a stand built and placed in the ground.

On Monday, a crew of inspired FRGC members and volunteers gathered at the club and worked diligently on the range. WC completed the sides and top while Roger Clark was running power to the machine from the Skeet house. Others helped out and before we knew it, the machine was placed within the house. Dan Sprouse did some final back-filling while final wiring took place. It was an exciting night as range 3 was throwing its first birds before the crew left.

Hats off to the Members for working so hard to make this happen. Within about a 36 hour period, range three when from non-existent Sunday Morning, to throwing birds on Monday Night. Very impressive! Kinda funny when I proposed the plan a week ago, we were thinking it was going to be a tough task to complete by the Grand.

We will have some guys working on the machine throughout the week adjusting and tweaking it. All the markers for where the birds are to land are laid out, just need to adjust the machine accordingly. I'm planning on pulling some rounds on it Saturday to test out the range and work out any bugs!

And for some recent pictures, thanks to CindyFenn for taking them so we can all enjoy. Really looking forward to a great weekend!!!

The White Streak, is actually a bird in flight!!!

Told you all we were busy getting ready for The Grand!! Sure was nice that we had a 3rd trap machine not in use but ready to go.

Woohoo - hats off to our energetic Rangemaster, Eric, (aka BorntoScore), and our great volunteers! The game plan is to make it a permanent range, hopefully within the next year but this sure has moved us along towards that goal!

Too bad we dont have a fourth machine laying out...HAHA

I just remember how busy the Grand was last year and wanted to do anything to help make the events run smoother. This way we can have 24 shooters shooting at once, instead of just 10 with ranges 1 and 2 shooting 5 man teams.

Heres some other pictures of the range going in. These were taken on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Dan S. for loaning his tractor and time to use for the day and to WC (clubs president) for getting his hands dirty!

Steve, if you wear your dark glasses at night, then the

    White Flyers......yahoo! Good move Fennville.

Only bad thing is I won't be able to use the old "these targets are as hard as rocks" excuse.

Stay with the White Flyers and watch the shooters smile.

Attention ladies - we'd like to establish a women's division of "5 gal teams" for The Grand. Each shoots 2 rounds, 5 shooters per team, team score counts. Team can shoot on either Sat or Sun, both rounds the same day. Same rules as the 5 man teams but yardages may be adjusted.

Ladies can shoot on a mixed team in the regular 5 man team competition but you'll still be limited to a total of 2 teams - not 2 regular and 2 ladies.

We're just looking to get this started and like our Friday Night shoots, welcome ALL levels of shooters, no age limit so the youngins can join us too. All for fun - just the gals. May be a collaborated effort to set teams just to keep things encouraging for newer shooters.

Send me a Private Message if you know somebody interested with names and preferred day (Sat, Sun or don't care) - we're getting a list of shooters together.

Spread the word to everybody - hope to have 4 or more teams!

More exciting news from this weekend!!

We pulled out first protection on Trap 3 on Saturday and the range worked great. Only had a couple broken birds (could have been due to the birds being damp) which shouldn't be an issue to resolve. All shooters and spectators were pleased with the birds and operation of the range. What a huge asset the third range will be for this weekend!!!

Please post any questions you may have! Mark those calenders!!

To follow up on Eric's post here's the results of the maiden round thrown on Field 3 - used it for 1 protection only, no practice rounds so a totally even field I guess you'd say. 1st winners on the field are Ron Englesman & Mick Yonkers for 1st (19) and Bob Richmond & Rick Schanz for 2nd (18). No ties, no shootoffs. It was fun!!
