I opened a case of winchester 209 primers and for whatever reason decided to actually count the packs. They shorted me 200 primers out of 5000. 2 of the 10 packs only had 9 so count your winchester primers id say. They will be getting an e-mail shortly and i will advise what action they take..
So, did you get a chance to contact them or just get on here and blast them before they had a chance? All sealed packs and no intermediaries? Instead of telling everyone you got ripped off without giving them a chance is low. If you wanted to tell people to check for missing primers, tell people what you found and that you are going to contact Winchester. If you approach Wnchester as you did this message I wouldn't blame them for just assuming that you are trying to scam them out of more primers. You typed this Sunday evening, I bet that they are not even open. Before you claim to be ripped off GIVE THEM A CHANCE !!!!!!!!!
I would teach Winchester a lesson and only buy 100 at a time. I would check the package thoroughly for any evidence of tampering. I would then call Winchester AGAIN and try to recieve 1 free primer for the 1 you were shorted, and after about 55-60 years you'll feel better knowing you taught them a lesson
It meant that he said he was missing over $8.00 worth or two one hundred cartons. I don't blame him, I would contact them too and see how they responded. Jackie B.
Several years ago I found some old Winchester 20ga shells that my dad had bought in the 70’s. The brass had separated so it looked like there was two bases so I sent them to Winchester thinking they might want to see them. I didn’t ask for anything in return I just thought I might help with their product development. They sent me a thank you letter and a $100 off coupon for any Winchester product. That experience is one reason why I bought a Winchester select energy trap shotgun so I’d say give them a chance to respond before you get upset.
I for one , won`t purchase any Winchester product for what happened to me many years ago . I bought a box of 5000 primers and most were bloopers . Sent them the code number off the carton and shells that didn`t go off and some primers that were not used as they asked me for . They first told me to check my reloading book then when they received the primers and shells , the best they could do was send me 2 $5 off coupons for their products . Never again and I`ll tell everyone about it too . I got a raw deal !!! I would have rather had less and they all went off .
I got ripped off with some Winchester shot many years ago, the bag was missing about 152 BB's (pellets) and Winchester never did anything about it when I notified them ... That was it for me and Winchester except for the Model 12's I have yet today, and I started shooting all new Remingtons ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
If you take the evidence to Winchester Cathedral, the folks there will give you lots of new stuff and exchange stuff for you. Winchester Cathedral is tired of having the reputation of "bringing people down." It worked for me.
Although not in keeping with the exact topic of this thread, I recently had a somewhat negative experience with Winchester regarding rifle brass.
I purchased two bags each of new unprimed 7mm STW and .243 Winchester brass. Out of the bags, the STW brass was .010" to .033" shorter than the published trim-to length and the necks were cut off crooked while the .243 brass was as much as .060" longer than the maximum for that cartridge and the primer pockets all were too shallow. I returned the STW brass to Winchester and it was replaced. I just let my motor-driven case trimmer and case conditioner take care of the .243 stuff but it really took a while.
In short, I think Winchester may be working through some quality problems right now.
Automated insertion they most likley don't touch the primers at the point of packaging. You have a valid complaint and i'm sure that the company will fix the probelm. I have had AA lights new factory ammo that don't fire thats a bummer, you need to voice your concerns and see what happens.
I just received a letter from Winchester regarding two factory shells that failed to fire [AA Super Handicap]. The primers were set too deep and the firing pin hit, but did not set them off. I measured the shell bottom with a T square and there was visible space between the shell/brass and the primer. I also gave one of the shells to another shooter [after the round] and the shell did not go bang. This was during an ATA event. I returned them to Winchester as directed. Winchester informed me that it was my gun's fault and that I need a new firing pin. Funny, all the other 98 shells went bang. Winchester also sent me a $5.00 coupon. I am writing them back and returning the coupon -- my reloads are better than their factory loads. Also, the coupon will not even buy a new box of shells @ $8.50+. The Winchester people must think that we are fools. Well this fool will buy other brands. Fred
For what it's worth, I received the replacement 7mm STW brass from Winchester yesterday. It's just like the first batch - shorter than the trim-to length for this cartridge and the case mouths are cut off at an angle. I called the Winchester employee who handled my concern and told her what the new brass was like. She just said that a trim-to length simply is "the middle of the length specification" and that she would issue a UPS pickup for the brass and send me a refund check. She expressed no concern over the crooked mouths or the fact that product shipped to correct a stated problem in fact contained the same defect - you'd think they'd at least check for that.
Coincidentally, 200 rounds of Remington brass in that same chambering that I ordered from Midway USA a few days ago also arrived yesterday. It is right between the trim-to and maximum lengths and the mouths are cut square with the casing.
Apparently Winchester's rifle brass has gone the same quality route as their shotshell hulls. I can remember when both were very highly regarded.
Bocepus, I read and understood what he wrote. He is missing 200 primers. Two of the little boxes. That is what he wrote. I think that he should give Winchester a chance to correct the problem before he starts bad mouthing them in front of everyone. If he had said. Coount your primers, I had a problem with Winchester and they took care of it. That would be fine. If Winchester did not make it right, then yell about being ripped off. An honest, corrected mistake is not a rip off in my book. An honest, uncorrected mistake may be a rip off.
Fer cryin' out loud, call Winchester customer service and give them a chance to make it right. Sheesh. Is that so difficult?<br>

The only time I had to call an ammo maker was when CCI .38 wadcutters would no longer cycle my S&W Model 52. The rep said that due a fire at a powder plant, CCI had to substitute the powder. He basically said they hadn't thought about anyone shooting their wadcutters in a semi-auto, simply because it's so uncommon it's all but rare. I thanked him, and said they wouldn't go to waste, because I had plenty of revolvers to shoot them in. He said hang on a minute, I need your address because CCI is going to send a like amount of replacement ammo from an earlier lot, and I could keep all the newer ammo for my other guns. And within the week a big heavy package arrived. I hadn't even wanted replacements, just to inform them about the cycling issue, but CCI made good on it anyway.
How many times have the shooters tried to rip the companies?? Example: I was talking to the Winchester rep at a shoot when a shooter came up to him and demanded compensation for a shell that failed to fire costing her a target and a good score. He looked at the shell and politely her told that this was a reload, she refused to accept that and continued to demand. He showed the shell to me and I told her that it was a reload and she got even madder. He asked if he could cut the shell open, as now a group was gathering, after cutting open shell he showed her that she had loaded a spent primer in the casing. In addition factory new shells had a different colored primer than what Win. sold over the counter at that time. She still insisted that she was right and he was wrong. That is until husband showed up and tried to explain to her that he had replaced 2 new shells with 2 reloads in one of her boxes and as it turned out a reloading error of a spent primer.
Moral of the story he told me this happens all the time. So slow down before you start charging ripoff.
Explain to me then, if the ribbed tape seal x 3 was broken by me, where did my 200 primers go, i dont care if i lost .80,1.80 or 8.00 this is not the point. My only point is i payed for something i didnt not recieve,it would be nice to see if anyone else who bought lot number ydl194 was shorted any. Oh buy the way, resticking the tape wont work,if you try and remove it the cardboard where it attaches would have visible damage,so the "could of been removed from the case anywhere" wont work. the case was shorted before the seal was put on.
I had two Remington Nitro's fail to fire during a 27 yard shoot-off for my state's handicap title. It did bother me, but I did bring it to Remington's attention.
I shipped them the two culprits without powder (I removed the powder prior to shipping).
They responded with a letter of apology.
