Is there a difference between these two, or are they the same gun? I bought a model 1912 trap grade over the weekend and would like to know how to take it down for cleaning. Any help out there? Thanks, Mike

Model 12 is the model of the gun which was first produced in 1912 hence the Model 12 they are two names for the famous American repater/ pump action shotgun. Various configurations, gauges, and grades wonderful guns in years gone by it was the trap gun to own. I still do and enjoy shooting it it really turns targets in to powder when I'm on my game.

The earlier Model 12,s were designated Model 1912, this would indicate an early mfg. date. You will have no problem with parts as few changes were ever made. A common problem was the hammer spring weakening. When I shot a M-12 I changed the hammer spring every April. Contact Stu Wright in Pickneyville, Illinois for parts. If you do not know, Stu bought all of the parts and tools from Herb Orre, argueably the best M-12 gunsmith.

After 30 years of shooting my Model 12 last year I had to have a new hammer spring put in mine at the Southern Grand by a gunsmith and it only cost ten bucks! Not bad for 30 years of shooting and the only repair needed. Good luck. Tom
