Yes it is but I have calls out to a few high end model 12 collectors. If they pass it will be open for any one to buy.

Oh come on, just give us a hint! What's a high end collector expected to have to pay? I promise not to tell anyone else.

That is an astounding gun. However, I have never seen a prewar pigeon grade with the pigeon engraved on the extension. I have also never seen a prewar pigeon grade without a black diamond in the stock. Is there some additional provenance or information to add that would confirm the originality of this gun? I am interested in and own prewar Ulrich pigeon grades, but have never seen one as nice as this.

Eightbore to answere your ? from what I can tell looking in all my book 1939 whas the frist year you could get a stock with out a black diamond. Refer to Dave Riffle book on page 93 he shows a 1939 28Ga with the same stock and forend as what is on this gun. As to the pigeon engraved on the extension that part I'm not sure on as none of my books showes when they started it. I have seen a least a few pre war model 12's that came from the factory with it engraved. So I would say that it all came down to what the coustomer wanted at the time. The first guy on this gun is still thinking then there is 2 other in line. So I would say yes the gun is sold but do not know tell cash is in hand. If I can help with any thing else plesase let me know.

Having owned a gun engraved by another Winchester engraver, I have to say Ulrich is the man!

I would personally say that,if you are talking engraved model 12's Ulrich was the best followed by john kusmit at a close second.Nick kusmit would be third i guess, but i have seen some salerno guns that looked pretty good. But it is also hard to forget stokes and gough,if you have never seen a stokes engraved gun in person it is something to see! And that is not even bringing up the other ulrich's that came before george ulrich.they were truly masters at what they did. Go and get a copy of the winchester engraving book and you will see rifles engraved by the ulrichs that will make your mouth water.
