Winchester M42 barrel with M61 marking

    It's interesting to see these markings on a factory M-42 barrel. I think they were using the same barrel blanks.

    Anyone can share your knowledge with us? Thanks.

    The M-61 marking is at the underside of the barrel.

    I would guess a mistake during production.Check the date of manufacture on your 42 and see if it dates from 1947 to 1949. That was the production period for the model 61 round barrel in long rifle only.

    Yes, 47 was showing in the 3rd. picture.
