This has sparked my curiosity. It appears to be a trap model, but I have never seen one before with the gold accents. Did you receive any information that this was a special run of some type?

My first NIB tactical shotgun was a Winchester 1200 Defender. One of the fastest shotguns to pump, if not THE fastest. Miserable recoil.

No info that it was a special edition. It is a 30" full choke trap gun and like the pictures show it has a Monte Carlo stock with very nice wood. How about the serial #? What year was it made? Bulge.

The low serial number is a puzzler. Winchester started making the 1200 in 1964, and it was superseded by the 1300 in 1978. But the trap version is circa the mid-1970's. My 1200 Defender came in a similar (but longer) box, and had the same owners manual.

I am going to sell it. I want to do some research on this particular gun. It seems to be an odd one. Bulge.

I have a friend who has a matched trap and skeet model with consecutive serial #'s. He told me these guns came with the gold grip cap and trigger etc. He also has a gold magazine cap on both guns. He told me in 1968 winchester offered this arrangement as an anniversary model. I use to own a model 1200 trap. Broke targets with the best of them, BUT, the trigger was sloppy. I took it to 2 different gunsmiths that work on numerous trap guns and both of them would not work on the trigger. They said very hard to work on, and would not be able to improve it much anyway. Some of these guns came with fantastic wood. Because this pump came after the long time loved model 12, a lot of shooters felt it was very inferior. Lets face it, it is not a model 12, but for the money it is worth it. I purchased mine 3 years ago, like new, with great wood from a gun shop for $325.00. With your gun being new, and if it is an anniversary model, $500.00 would seem about right. Despite the sloppy trigger it is a good gun. the trigger was the weak point.

Is it possible that this gun is part of a pair? Winchester supplied these in sets for the Clay Bird Tournement in 1968 and maybe some other years. I think maybe it would have had WCT along with the serial. Nice gun, kick you ears off, but you could learn to love it in time.

I had 1 exactly like that and have some history on it. In the late 60's Winchester sponsored some clay target tournaments and gave these guns out to the winners, Serial # should start out WCT which stands for Winchester clay tournaments. Mine had only been test fired and was in excellent shape. I tried to sell it on here but got little interest, I sold it for $400. Nice guns and I felt it should have brought more but everyone kept saying it's a Winchester and does'nt hold it's value which seemed odd to me a 40 year old gun in mint cond. Made by a company no longer in business should be worth something. get what you can out of it.
