Mine are from The Book , Winchester model 42, By Don Combs and the dates are from the original Winchester daily logs of manufacture. Madis has more than a few mistakes in his books and this proves it. Jeff

Jeff...I personally do not have a clue as to the correct figures and dates in any publication a person may own,but the above dates match my offical Winchester dates of manufacture book also.Is it possable to access the computer records at the Cody archive from a persons home computer ,without writeing them. I would love to be able to find shipping info on a few Model-`71 rifles I own...KS-OKIE.

Serial number 138,405 was made and stamped on January 5th 1955 , the last recorded reciever was made and stamped on September 10th 1964 and was serial number 164801. The math says 26,396. There were 16,281 made in the first year of production,1933.I can give it to you year by year except 1943 to 1945 there were only 590 made during that war period and there are no records. Jeff

    OK, now this makes sense..........

Records from 1955-1963 are lost, so the factory, using total production from 1955-1963 divided total production from these years and found average yearly production was 4,683 guns.
