I have a chance to buy one of these knuckle busters but it needs a new barrel.
Some yahoo cut the original to 18". Anyone have a source for one, new or used?

There were a lot of them sold as "trench guns" I think they were army surplus and had 18" barrels

Would probably be easier to find a complete one. Matching no.'s bring more $$ anyway.

The short barrel 97's are in very high demand with SASS shooters. If the 'sawed off' gun you are looking at is in otherwise good condition and priced right you might want to get it for trading stock to eventually get the unaltered long barrel gun that you want. Mixing parts on these guns is expensive due to the fact that these guns haven't been made in 50+ years and miss matched numbers kill resale values.

people mention resale value- most dont have a lot of resale value and you already have a cut off barrel so I would not worry about getting another part

Barrels are readily available== just relax and take your time finding one.

what other option do you have?

Is it a takedown or solid frame model?
