I'm am new to the high end gun market, but why is there so much interest in parting out guns?

    Either:
    1. Parts are wearing out requiring guns to be rebuilt?
    2. People are not happy with the factory configurations?
    3. Shotguns are are extention of childhood erector sets?

Isn't a gun that is not cobbled together from other gun parts worth more?

    Just asking what I'm missing.

This. Makes more sense to reconfigure a gun you own then to sell it and buy a new one. And complete guns have to be broken down to make this possible.

For example: I got a great deal on Beretta 390 with a 26" bbl. I purchased a step rib trap barrel for it to make it an excellent trap gun. I now am looking for a deal on an adjustable stock and possibly a matching forepiece. Building a gun in this manner is fun and selling the excess parts helps with the cost of it. Bill

A lot of parts are obsolete and getting hard to find. Buying some spare parts can be a good idea. Locking bolts for Super X-1's are getting hard to get. I bought a whole bolt assembly cheaper than some places want for just the locking bolt.
