Thats why i'm thankfull for the underground lines in my area. That is except for when the numb nuts that work for the city water dig it up because they are too lazy or stupid to have them marked ahead of time.

that is the ice I have completely covering my little piece of the world. After sweeping off the snow I cleaned my front porch off with a hammer. Unbelievable. Birdtracker

    Jim,

It looks to me like a build up of ice from the power line. No wonder the line failed. Ice 1/2" thick on a wire would give you about a TON of added weight per span per wire. This was a lot more by the looks.

I can relate as I'm retired from Ma Bell with about 30 years as a lineman. I've seen ice like this B4.

we got our power back after just 10 hours. I still hear a generator down the road. Also first time I have had to knock the ice off the roof due to how much we got.Birdtracker

There's a whole lot to be said about a wood burner when the power goes out. You don't need power to keep a fire lit and the house reasonably warm without a blower. Keep a cord or two of good seasoned wood out back and you're all set. A nice one is decorative enough even if you don't burn regularly. They add a little rustic charm to a house and even though they take up a little space in the house, they are worth their weight in gold when you need them.

Yeah ours went out and the wife drags out the ELECTRIC infra-red heater and said I am putting this in the bathroom and take a hot bath.

OK she likes skeet but I keep it quiet.

Here in Virginia we don't get the amounts of snow a lot of you get. But we get a lot of ice storms. This year we received the snow. Between the two I would rather have the snow. During the past I have not had to cut any trees for fire wood. The ice storms and hurricanes would provide all we wanted. Our worst outage was 7 to 10 days. That is no fun but we emptied out the freezer.

Something I've never understood,... guys that shoot this sport,... own 1 or more 5k shotguns that are carried w/ 500-1k cases, arriving to the club in a 50K + ride, but will not install Automatic backup power generation, to protect their property or life style?

In NW Ohio, we had Snow, then freezing rain, then snow, then sleet. Not enough freezing rain to bring down power lines, so we were lucky. Got about 8" of snow. Today, 10 degrees and windy. Our drifts are solid enough you can drive over them.

Birdtracker, If you need help call me. I'll bring over a "care package".
