Why 7 1/2 ?

    So why do we have 7 1/2 shot - are there other shot sizes in 1/2 increments ?

    If memory serves there used to be size 7 shot many decades ago.

    Not only does #7 size shot still exist, it is not too unusual to find a few in a bag marked 7.5 shot.

    Oakleys and protectors there is nothing better than 7 shot.

    I still have 2 ten (10) lb bags of Lawrence copper coated # 5 shot. Best loads for ducks...

    I agree with trap 4. 1-1/4 oz of #7 is a nice load for protectors.

    I can't imagine a more perfect shot size for clay targets at long range than 7 1/2 shot. The perfect size for breaking power and density of load. 7 1/2's can consistently break targets farther away than I can consistently get the lead right.
