I load them but I shoot games and use 1/14 oz loads so you dont want my recipes but I do use Fed 12S4 wads or DR equiv

Federal 12S3 (and the clones of that wad) are the correct replacement wads for 1 1/8 ounce loads.

Hercules and Alliant reloader's guides from the late 80's thru mid 90's are ambivalent about which Federal wad to use for a 1 1/8 ounce target load in Activ hulls. Some specify the 12SO but NOT the 12S3. Some guides list the 12S3 but don't mention the 12SO. At least one guide (early 90's) has data for both.

If I were in your shoes, I'd ask Ben Amonette at Alliant. His email is: ben.amonett@atk.com

    Tarheel,

I don't know about Alliant recipes, but I have loaded 18 grains of Nitro 100 with a 12S0 wad and 1 and 1/16th ounce of shot with good results. Although there is no published load for that recipe. So I cannot recommend the use of it. For loading Activs it might be best to get an older Lyman 4th Edition shotshell reloading manual if you don't have one. I think you will find that you may have to use a one ounce wad for 1 & 1/8th ounce loads with some powders because of the Activ having a little more capacity.

I will look at my Lyman book for 1 ounce and 1 & 1/8 ounce low pressure loads. What powders, primers or wads do were you considering using. I can look for some recipes. I also have an old Active pamphlet on reloading. I can try scanning it and emailing it to you. PM with your email address.

Even though Alliant does not list the Activ loads anymore, the older manuals still have valid data.
Red Dot at 18gr with the 12S3 wad works well for me and is listed in the Activ and Alliant data books. PM or send me an email if you want one of the old Activ data books that came with the Activ wads, or if you are looking for a specific powder load let me know and I'll email you the data from the book.

I have an Active reloading book that came with the new hulls. It has reloading data for "non" active wads. PM me your address and I will send it to you. Thanks, Del
