I liked the link about the Model 12's, let's try it with the 870.
    I have a 20 gauge made in 1951 ser 77000 range.

How did the serial numbers run for 870s? Did they start at 1 or do they run in several series' with different letter suffixes and prefixes? Winchester made it simple.

    12 gauge TC, s/n 74736V, it is dated either 1951 or 53, I can't seem to remember.

It's being shot every weekend by a 13 year old trap shooter.

June 1950 16ga AP 870 #26xxx and a 1951 12ga vent rib skeet sc #76xxx. Different 870's were introduced at different times. The 12 gauges came first, followed by the 16's in June 1950, and the 20's came out in September 1950. No 28 ga or 410 ga 870's until the late 60's.
