I am looking to have the choke in my shotgun reworked, who is the best at this work. I already know about Tom Wilkinson as I have a TM1 choked by him. Are there any other barrel men that are better than Tom. Any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance for all your thoughts.

Kerry Allor is the best. IMHO Try him you won't regret it.

There is a reason why certain people are always back-logged and you have to schedule the work you want done with them. These are the people that I want working on my stuff.

does Tom build K80 chokes to the factory specs or does he only do chokes for when you have your barrel worked on?

I have two barrels by Kerry Allor, one by Tom Wilkinson and one done by Eyster 15 years ago. They were that way when I bought them.

They all shoot really great patterns.

-----Tom worked on several barrels for me. I am totally satisfied with his work. I have not tried anyone else and won't as long as Tom is around. His work does not come cheap but you get what you pay for. He is pleasant to deal--ask good questions and gives helpful advice....SMOKIT

My first MX-15 had a Wilkinson tuned barrel and three tuned choke tubes. Patterns were stupendous. I tried to have additional barrel worked on by TW, but it didn't work out. My current Unsingle and O/U barrels were done by Kerry Allor, along with my triggers. If I ever need barrel work again in the future, they will go to Allor. The man is a fanatic, delivers what he says he will, AND on the day he promises. As terrific as his barrels and chokes are, his triggers are even better. I've had my Perazzi triggers done by Wilkinson and by Giacomo. No comparison. Allor does a better job, and it holds up at least twice as long as the other two.

Friends have had their barrels done by Eyster, and the shoot and pattern great. Eyster is beloved by the Sporting and Bunker crowd, but does excellent trap work, as evidenced by my friends' barrels.

All three have a different approach, so it pays to talk to them before deciding. As I've said, I'm sold on Allor, but if Wilkinson and Allor quit the business, I wouldn't feel the least hesitant to go to Eyster.

I have known Tom Wilkinson for about 35 years. He is very meticulous with everything he does. Tom takes pride in his work and he is as careful with a Rem 870 barrel as he is with a Seitz. I am sure others also do fine work, but I would select Tom for barrel work.

kirby schupp aka the shotgun doctor is an amazing gunsmith, he manufacturers his own chokes and they are $300 per set but they are very high quality. he will cut the barrel and thread it for his chokes or he might be able to make the chokes made for your gun. he is located in arnold, mo.
