Tell me what candidate(s) I can vote for with a clear conscience given that I believe the following…

    1) I believe the government should stay out of my life except when my actions harm others and/or limit their constitutional rights. This means, in short: stay out of my bedroom; my mind (don’t force or restrict my beliefs, especially in matters of faith); let me express myself how I will, and listen to others’ expressions, as long as I’m not engaged/endorsing obscenity, fraudulent or ‘clear and present danger’ speech as it is now defined by the Supreme Court.

    2) I believe in the 2nd Amendment. I have a right to protect myself in my home and to carry a concealed weapon out on the street since I am not a felon. I also recognize that this means my owning a tank, explosives and some other weapons beyond those that are typically available to me now is going a little overboard.

    3) I believe the government does have some role in providing a limited safety net for society. Programs like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security are okay in my book, although I wonder about these programs' efficiencies and worry about their cost. I am willing to take less money at work so my employer can pay some taxes to provide this safety net for everyone.

    4) I believe the government should neither support not hinder private businesses except when these business can or are hurting others, competing unfairly, in the case of monopolies or when regulating ‘energy,’ communication and similar industries that cannot, for practical purposes, be operated in an open market. Subsidies to businesses should be limited and almost never provided when these business are making reasonable profits. (Goodbye oil subsidies!)

    5) Abortion should be legal, but VERY, VERY rare. Except for cases of rape or incest, the mother’s health, or some really bad luck (like a condom breaking) there is little reason for unwanted pregnancies these days. If you’ve acted irresponsibly, be a responsible adult and get a ‘Day After’ pill and stop the pregnancy before we EVER have to get into the debate about when life starts.

    6) I believe in the 4th Amendment as it now stands. I am terrified at how both Republicans and Democrats have attempted to weaken our rights to prevent illegal searches and seizures in the name of the so-called war on drugs and/or terror.

    7) I believe in the 6th Amendment and that all people have a right to a (relatively) speedy trial. No person should ever be allowed to be held without legal representation, an ability to face their accuser in court, or a fair chance to prove their guilt or innocence. What has happened in regard to SOME illegal combatants is obscene and should constitute a war crime.

    8) I believe in ‘science,’ that it can be wrong, but that it is self correcting and generally leads to better knowledge. This means I believe in evolution and global warming (for the moment, given the preponderance of evidence). It also means I believe creationism or intelligent design should never be taught in a school’s science curriculum. These ideas do have a place, however, in a philosophy or comparative religion class. I believe that anyone who rejects evolution is so ideologically tied to their faith that they should not hold public office.

I can go on, but….you probably get what I’m generally about. I don’t think the above makes me a liberal or a conservative…or an independent for that matter. What do you think? And who can I vote for who represents my beliefs? PLEASE don’t waste my time by telling me where my beliefs are wrong. I’m not asking for your feedback about that here. We can debate that on threads about specific issues later. I would, however, sincerely like to hear you tell me of a candidate that I could reasonably vote for. Right now, it sure isn’t Romney or Obama…or any other politician I know of.

I did break it out into paragraphs, Rick... but the forum changed it when I submitted it. I apologize for the electronic limitations for which I have no control.

Double space between paragraphs and points and it will properly space your paragraphs. You can go back and edit your posts. It would be the "edit/delete" option below your post. Too jumbled together to try and read. If you are gonna leave it like that, you may as well delete it.

I see where you are at. But we cannot always have it the way we want it. Our choice here may well be the lesser of two evils in our own minds. Afterwards , you have the best position in our society to help straiten it out. Your a teacher ----I wish I had so much influence over the younger of this nation.---Larry P

If you're so damn smart you should know that this is not a candy store where you get what you want.

The choice is simple - big government controlling everything or something else.

I choose something else. I knew people from East Germany.

The part about the 2nd Amendment should be enough for you to make your choice. The idiots in office now have already proved they will do anything to take that right away. Three words, "Fast and Furious"

We have one choice this election. We must remove Obama. Voting anything but Republican is shooting yourself in the foot.

If you haven't figured it out after the last 4 years there is no help here.
I appreciate our country, our constitution, and my fellow man far to much two repeat the past four years. When you know the cylinder is full you don't play Russian roulette; ie. no second term.

I'll go farther and say 6 years!

My mind was made up back in 1968, before I was of legal age to vote!!

Can you figure that one out, Mark??

But that is what is so GREAT about this country Mark, YOU can vote for who ever you like!! Even if its a communist!

They aren't hard to find and they aren't hiding from anyone NOW!

I said I didn't want feedback on my positions. I did ask for feedback on candidates I could vote for that fit my criteria well.

I can't vote for Romney. Yes...he is there for me with the 2nd amendment, but he's off on virtually every other thing I believe in. He'll let me keep my guns, but he'll allow big business and the 1% to ride all over me and strip me of my constitutional rights as fast as liberals will.

And, Obama isn't much better. I don't think he's a communist. To call him one is pretty silly. But I don't like what he's done in regard to the 4th and 6th Amendments. So far he's not done a single thing that I know of about the 2nd amendment, but I fear to trust democrats in this regard. (And... I did just read that he would now support reinstatement of the AWB. This was the first credible report I'd read about Obama and guns recently. There's a crap-load of misinformation out about Obama and guns, but he's not being rational with the AWB in the least.) Additionally, Obama is backed by a party that's AS blinded by ideology as much as the Republicans are.

I appreciate the list of other parties, but the platforms of these groups are often even crazier than those of the two main parties.

I don't know if I really expected anyone to tell me of a candidate who even remotely believes like I do, but I wanted to try. And, unlike the one poster who said his mind was made up back in '68, I can't close my mind like that.

We, the American people, are being screwed royally by the Republican and Democratic parties. So many here on this site have drunk the Republican Kool-aid, while Democrats on other sites are sucking down liberal punch. The Republican party has completely lost touch with true conservative values, while the Democrats have turned into a bunch of safety-Nazis. I am pissed off that Romney and Obama are my only real options this November if I want my vote to count.

    Mr. Timney,

If you can convince yourself that Mr. Obama can "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity," then go ahead and vote for him.

The guys have been very nice to you. We know you signed on here at Trapshooters.Com in August and it is our desire to graciously welcome newcomers. We appreciate your opinions and we all support your right to express yourself freely in an open forum. It would be unrealistic though, to lead you to believe that anybody here gives two small, well rounded turds what you think about anything from shotgun shells to how the world is inclined to rotate on its axis. Further, there isn't one single, solitary member here who can't see through your phoney attempt at being the consummate Devil's Advocate.

You can do like the rest of us and vote against Obama. I don't care who takes his place as long as I can watch America's leftists riot in the streets because their god was dethroned. The entertainment value of that alone will make putting the X next to Romney's name worth my while.

Mtimney, From what I can get from your essay, you are a 30s-40s classic Democrat.
I am a Constitutionalist so I have sympathy but no suggestions. Both our trains have left the station. I like to shoot and Obama's past has too many gaps, so I guess I'll vote for Romney.
