I'll be attending a 3 day shoot this weekend. Aug 31-Sept 1 &2. What year will the targets be credited to.

And will the rule changes @ this years Grand be in effect?

The date the shoot ends dictates which target year the shoot falls under.

    What are the rule changes?

In caps it is strongly recommended that there be 1 yd difference in a squad with 18,19 & 20 yd shooters--its no longer required.

    Phil,

since the shoot ends on 9/2 the targets go on the 2014 target year.

If only a two day shoot like our's this year 8/31 and 9/1 the targets go on the 2013 year.

It would seem to me that targets shot on August 31st are 2013, and the ones on the 1st and 2nd would be 2014. If not, what happens if you only shoot on August 31st of a 3 day shoot? Is there an ATA Delegate available to answer this interesting question?

I was told 2014, keep in mind the club sends the shoot score sheets to ATA in all as one shoot, they do not send them in each day. Scott

Here is the verbiage from last year's ATA Rulebook

    B. TARGET YEAR
The 2013 target year runs from September 1, 2012 thru August 31, 2013. Scores shot at any tournament ending after September 1, 2012 regardless of starting date, will be included in the following year’s averages.

    Looks pretty clear to me.

When you shoot does not matter, how long the shoot lasts does not matter.

It depends when the shoot ends, not when it starts.

If it ends on 9/1 the targets are for the previous target year.

If it ends on 9/2 the targets go into the next target year.

Now a question, our shoot this year starts on 8/31 and ends on 9/1.
a new shooter want to start shooting registered targets. Does he have to pay his annual dues for 2013 since the targets go on that year and then have to pay his annual dues again for 2014 at the next shoot he shoots 9/14 and 9/15 since it is a new target year?

I just posted what's in the rule book via cut and paste. Now that I re-read it, it is a bit contradictory.

Interesting question about the new shooter and his dues

Now a new ?-does this mean all shooters must renew their memberships in this event in order to compete legitimately ? I have a life membership--what does an annual member do?

If the targets are for the new year your dues are due for the 2014 year..

The new target year begins 12:00:01am on September 1.

Targets shot at any tournament that ends after the new target year begins, regardless of when the tournament started, are registered in the new target year.

Anyone who joins or renews their membership at a tournament that ends after the new target year begins is joining or renewing for the the new target year.

So, if there is a two day tournament on 31August and 1September and someone joins the ATA and shoots on 31August only, they have joined for the 2014 Target Year and their targets are registered in TY14.

I just had some correspondence with the powers that be in Sparta and what V10 just wrote is exactly right.

If the shoot ends in September, all targets thrown at that shoot are registered in the new year under the dues paid for the new year.

    Pretty simple.

The day after the Grand ends, starts the new target year. You need to pay your 2014 ATA dues starting for shoots after the Grand. Has been that way for a while. This encourages you to shoot registered as it goes to the new target year. Targets shot at Cardinal Classic count for 2014 & you had to pay your 2014 dues if not a life member.

I beleive you are both correct, the rule book is a little unclear as it says ending after 9/1 on page 7. I guess they mean after 9/1 starts not after it ends.

never heard of 1OTimers target years start.

I forwarded this whole thread to the ATA and this is the response I received.

    Thank you for your inquiry.

In regard to your question, Section II, B. TARGET YEAR of the Official ATA rules states:
"The 2013 target year runs from September 1, 2012 thru August 31, 2013. Scores shot at any tournament ending after September 1, 2012 regardless of starting date, will be included in the following year's averages."

To clarify, if the shoot ends on September 1 or after, it is considered a shoot in the new target year. As an example, a shoot that begins on August 29, 2013 and ends on September 2, 2013 will be considered a 2014TY shoot. All annual members must renew their dues at this shoot, even if they are shooting on the earlier August days only, because the entire shoot is a 2014TY shoot. Another example would be a one day shoot on August 31. This would be a 2013TY shoot. If it were a two day shoot, held on August 31-September 1, it would be a 2014TY shoot and annual dues would be due, even for those members shooting on Saturday August 31 only.

Hopefully this has answered your question. In regard to the recent rule changes, we will have a summary posted to the ATA website today and emails out to officials and gun clubs.

Thank you for your support of our sport and Association.
