I'm going to make a set of barrel weights for my over/under, and would like to make them out of w/e grade of steel will take bluing the best. Any thoughts? I'm thinking regular cold rolled steel will be fine, just thought i'd pose the question to those who'd know better than i would.

Cold roll steel will turn black in an instant at 285 degrees. This is the starting temp for hot bluing.

Whatever kind oxidizes the easiest. Plain Carbon cold rolled you can do in your kitchen oven...
