I am going to start shooting doubles and I was just wondering which barrel you shoot first in an O/U!

Thanks and good luck to all!

There is probably the rare exception, but most would shoot the bottom barrel first. Bill Malcolm

Matt... Usually the bottom barrel is first for 2 reasons. One is the bottom barrel is usually choked more open than the top for that first shot and the 2nd is that the bottom barrel has less felt recoil and less muzzle jump than the top barrel letting you get on the second target faster.....Dan Thome (Trap2)

I would shoot the one which shoots the higher, assuming the other one is choked full or close to it. What I specifically wouldn't do is pay any attention to the reduced recoil in the lower barrel theory since it always seems the other way to me.

I shoot a Beretta 687, and the bottom barrel shoots flatter than my top, to I choke it LM in the top, shoot it first and then a M in the bottom and shoot it at what's left over..seems to work for me..lb
