    What

    It is obvious to all of us that atrapshooting appears to be an "old guys" activity. It's really good to see young people and women enjoying our sport. I'm sure we have all heard the reasons for this with the prominate one being that this is an expensive activity. But what about this list? It would be interesting to do our own straw poll survey on ages and while we are at it, where we are from and how long we have been shooting trap. I'll get us started;
    56 / Pittsburgh, PA / 1 year

    I'll be 59 in a couple of weeks...

    Started hanging around trap clubs when I was 8 years old. No OSHA then, used to load targets and pick up empties for my dad and uncle at the old Buffalo Trap and Field Club!

    Started shooting about the same time with a Mossberg 20ga. pump gun my dad let me use! 51 years of breaking clays! Still love it!

    34 and I've been shooting for 25 years and ATA for 12 years.
    I started as a trap boy loading the machine and a few of the club members used to let me shoot a round with there guns.

    Respectfully... we get what we ask for.

    If you make a club "inviting" to women, young people and people of "color"; then actually promote your club to women, young people and people of color; a club attains diversity.

    If all you invite in are "white guys"... well, it's not too hard to difficult to imagine what the club continues to look like... and regardless of all the talk - there will always be a segment of shooting club members that will resist change.

    There are always people who have money... clubs have to continuously attract fresh revenue into their operations. We have to think of our clubs as a business to keep them a going concern.

    With respect,

    Jay Spitz
