    What

I know it's a trap forum but I think I get the best info here. Yes, I will keep my pink tutu clear of my shell box holder.

    1) What is your favorite 12 ga. skeet load?
    2) What 12ga. load do champion skeet shooters use in tournaments?
    3) Or... does it matter?

I suspect the lack on info on this question in my books indicates the answer is (3) but I am interested in your opinion.

    Thanks.

Pick a good singles trap load you like and use number 9 shot in it.

STS hulls, 16.5 gr. 700X or 17.2 gr. Clays, Win. 12L wad or the Claybuster clone, Cheddite or Winchester primer, 7/8 oz of #9s, I.C. choke - this combo has proven well suited for skeet, 16 yard trap, first shot of trap doubles, and even a good 1/2 or more of my sporting clays shots and you'll find it in the loading manuals......Bob Dodd

I always shoot one ounce of reclaimed shot, STS hull, 17 gr Red Dot, Cheddite primer and DR XL1 green wad. Skeet doesn't require anything fancy, just load as cheap as possible. Mine cost me $2.80 a box:)

1225 fps 7/8 oz of 8 1/2's. This is also a great shell for the first shot in doubles.

I generally use a Remington hull, Clays powder, Winchester 209, and Downrange XL-1 wad (the green one). This is a very soft shooting load that is deadly to clay targets. If I was a little better at singles it would work well for that too.

If you want the maximum target breaking load it is 1-1/8 ounce of 9's through a cylinder choke. This load/choke combination will give you the largest effective pattern. Put it in a Federal paper hull and send it at 1150 fps and it is a very soft shooting load. When I was shooting competitive skeet that is what I shot in my Browning Gold.

The best? How about the most legal pellets you can throw? 1 1/9 of #9 shot is the best. That said lots of guys shoot a 20ga with 7/8oz of 9's in the 12ga event. Jeff

Any good 7/8 oz load is all you need for skeet. BDodd's load has been mine for some time. I'm experimenting with 12 gauge 3/4 oz loads now and so far they're working just fine.

I have shot at several skeet world championships in san antonio, almost every one uses factory loads mostly provided free to the "big guns" only ,sts seems to be the most popular. Dan Witcher

The best lesson I learned from shooting sporting is there is no such thing as bad 12 gauge skeet ammo. It's all good at 21 yards.

All summer long I sweep up spilled shot, reclaim bad loads, wet shells, handicap shells, orphans, unknowns, and put the shot in an old powder container. It's all sizes, all brands, all conditions. In winter I put it in the shot bottle, and with Red Dot and a 28 bushing and 1 1/8 bar I make skeet shells. My 1100 says they are just fine.

I like 1 1/8 ounce of 9's and a skeet choke. I say that but the last time I shot skeet was last Wednesday and I shot a 25 with a full choke and 1 ounce of 7 1/2's. But when it counts give me a skeet choke and 1 1/8 ounce of no. 9's. What a swarm of shot.

Being a 410 shooter I have found that the noise alone from a 12 ga. will break them.
