What shell would you 27 yard shooters shoot, in a tournament like the Ohio state shoot that is coming up in June???? While we are at it how about singles and doubles and any choke recommendations?

with speed comes recoil. I shot a couple of 98's with 2 3/4 AA's and a 98 at last years Grand with 3 dram Super Target. This season my 15th ATA venture I am flinching with my pull triggers. "Speed Kills" maybe not just Targets. Been on the 27 for 9 years.

I usually shoot AA Super Handicap, but any good shell around 1200 ft/sec or a little more, should work very well.

You are much better off shooting a marginal shell well than shooting an excellent shell poorly.

    Nitro 27 7 1/2 or 22 grains of PB 7 1/2. Anything at 16's around 1145.

Gun fit is important to reduce any recoil.

Don- I have found that the very best way to reduce felt recoil to my face is to lift my head just as I shoot. This technique does not require a properly fitted gun. Next time we get to shoot with each other and make a shoot off, you should try my method.

Pat; I'll try it at the US Open this week and report back to you. Sounds like a timing thing.

    Big Don,

We missed you at Cardinal Center this past week! Roger had your new golf cart parked in front of his vending spot all week selling tickets. Apparently there are other shooters that think they are going to win the cart!!! Good luck in Sparta and hope to see you at The Ohio State Shoot in a couple of weeks.

When I was shooting a lot it was the Nitro 27 that I prefered because I didn't find that they had to much recoil and my gun liked them because it patterns them real well,(can tell by the breaks) especially the 7 1/2s ... They turn targets into little balls of smoke ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

    Don,
I would recommend that you let your gun help tell you what you should use. Buy a couple/three boxes of each and head to the trap. Shoot five or six shells of one then another, rinse and repeat... you'll get your answer.

    Good Luck,

I did try 2 different brands tonight at the leaque shoot (Mid State Gun Club) I shot super hc 7.5, very impressive breaks and the Nitro 7.5 not as impressive breaks and seemed to kick harder. I will try some Paper hc this next.

Give the "lights" (AA , STS, Estates, 1150fps) a try......I think you will find that they hit em just as hard and they are real easy on the shoulder.
