To draw the seriously good shooters in an area to a 2 day combined trap/sporties/5 stand event.

Intent is to limit entries to 25-35 shooters,
have a serious purse (like maybe 3,000 for first, 2,000 for second) prize level. This would be sort of a local 'Best Gun' shoot
held in March in the Northern Latitudes (Wisc/Ill/Min/Mich area).

Question - Would this even draw?
What should the entry fee be?
    Any suggestions for scoring/rules?

This type of shoot is often referred to as an "Iron Man" shoot, referring to skills in multiple venues. It's most likely that you would attract shooters from the sporting clays clan as they tend to be more adventuresome than others. Getting the word out to as many shooters as possible will help and you may have to limit participation if you want to keep it smallish. You will have to charge hefty fees to have the payouts you suggest; for example $100 entry fee per shooter times 30 shooters will not cover the purses you suggest but $500 per entry is likely to scare quite a few away. A safe way to handle the entry vs. purse situation is to have purses based on XX dollars from each entry will go to purses. That way if only 10 folks show up you aren't going to lose a lot of money. If many show, you'll have those big purses.....breakemall.....Bob Dodd

Åddl: After reviewing Zardo's remarks, I must say that I was speaking of attracting locals out for a lot of fun but sizeable payouts. I agree with his remarks. If you are trying to attract 30 or 40 of the top shooters from anywhere, you clearly will need serious sponsors. You would have to consider weather, attractive location, hotels, and all the amenities for the famous.....BD

Objective is not to attract the 'big guns' aka Kruger/Robertson/Digweed. More to have a high value purse for local guns having a good time and willing to stake some money on it. Thinking was to limit entries to 25-30, and doing that partially be entry fee (we kick $200 around).

Reason for Winter was that the schedule is simply to crowded all Summer long starting in May (April for many).

I like the idea of entry percent going to fees. We are trying to get some new ideas going that would 'cross pollinate' between the disciplines. Got the idea from the 'World Championship' that was held in TX last year. There were some gripes, but think it was a cool idea. All round gun could make for some fun.

You think the late Winter would be a show stopper?

You'll just have to stick it out there then and see what happens. My suggestion for creating the purse will be the safe way for the club to not get hammered if you simply don't get the reaction you want. But, if your program is clear that the entry fee is $200 for the day and XX % will go to YY number of places, say first to third place, 50./30/20%, you might fill your wish to attract some 25 or 30. $200 X 30 = is 6 big ones and all you'll need to do is make sure you cover your expenses, include a little profit for improvements, and the rest goes to 3 places or whatever you wish. Could be sizeable.....Bob Dodd
