A 1948 Plymouth 4dr sedan, owned by a retired schoolteacher. $150. Since I drove it a little different than the schoolteacher, in short order I blew all the carbon out and it drank oil from then on.

A new VW 1967 Beetle, $1746.90, with radio. Payments were $53 monthly. 40 MPG. The little bug would go anywhere. Gas was a quarter a gallon, twenty nine cents for premium.

Oh, I made $6 per hour on a construction crew. Worked my tail off.

I think youth IS wasted on the young! LOL

1973 Dodge Charger loaded for $4500. It was a beautiful car in bright red with black vinyl top and dual chrome-tipped ported exhausts. 400 CI and 4 barrel carb. Body, engine, and trans performed and held up well, but interior quality was poor with little plastic things and knobs breaking all the time, and black vinyl upholstery started splitting after one year and had to be redone. It had steel-belted radial tires which were a novelty at the time.
