Anyone able to ID this wad? It is either very dark grey or a shade of black. Inner portion is shaped like an X.

I am guessing but could it be an old "Trapper" Wad? The ones I have seen were red in color but they could have made other colors.

Looks like one of the old Hawk wads, predecessor to the Downrange XL.

American wad. If you do a search for these you should find a thread about them.

As per ou3200 looks like the Hawk brand that was made in Ill. in the 60s, shot a bunch of them because they were a good wad and were made just a few miles away from the club where I did most of my shooting at that time so were always in stock. Ross Puls

Trappers are orange with a "T" and they seem to load pretty nice. I've done a couple hundred with one 1oz.

    docbombay,

I do not know what brand of wad you have in your picture. It for sure is not a Super Hawk II 1 ounce wad like the one I have pictured. (edit) that is 9/16's from the bottom of the shot cup to the top of the powder cup.

Looks like Super Hawk II 1 ounce wad rotated slightly from the one above!

    deking00,

Where is the rectangle in the middle of the X on the original picture?

Also the original appears to be a 1 & 1/8th wad. Shot petals are rounded on the original. Super Hawk II wad petals are squared. Color is not the same.

    Just my observations!

Jim, you are correct, the wad does not have the rectangle in the middle like the super hawk.

Thanks to all that have given their input as to what type of wad this is.

I have over 500 of these wads and still do not have a clue as to what kind they are.
