The Bottle Inn in Hermosa Beach has very fine Italian food and excellent wine. If you want ot relax in the heat go to the fine beaches around LAX, walk on the Venice Beach promenade to view L.A.'s finest weirdos [leave them here - but you can talk about them when you get home], the Cheese Cake Factory has good food in Marina Del Rey and nice views [close to LAX], take a drive around Hollywood Blvd. and Sundset Blvd., and finally, for the wife - Rodeo Dr. in Beverely Hills for shopping [bring $$$'s] and wlecome to LA. Just take a walk down Broadway. Oh! and bring your flack jacket. Very interesting people, to say the least.

I suggest using your spare time to brush up on your Spanish so that you can coherently communicate with the vast majority of the population. Just my opinion...
