I think it is burl claro walnut. And, it looks pretty darn nice to me. I can't see the grain in the handle. That is critical for strength. You don't want burl there. Jake

    PS. Could be Turkish.

It's Turkish Walnut and came from the Eastern part of Turkey.....nothing wrong with burl figured in the wrist....pumps,autos or O/U's if the stockman does his job correctly during choosing, inletting and fitup.

Yes...there is a beauty in burl that is not found in other blanks.....one must remember there is good and bad burl figured blanks!

Growth rings and color says Turkish all the way. Color may have been enhanced somewhat and highly doubt that Jerry, Ritchie or Phil would put Claro on one of the most expensive O/U's known to trapshooters.

I say give DB a cigar!

top Juglans Regia of the(Far)eastern family for sure....the bottom....contains the brilliant colors of Juglans Hindsii and darker streaks of Juglans Regia so I will guess it to be Juglans Hybrid.

Oh, oh....oh...I know what kind of wood they are....DAMN FINE WOOD! LOL

When lightened, the bottom one looks like Claro to me also...but I really don't think I can call this accurately from a picture.

    Cheers

Why is Gord always wrong on wood questions?

Top one is Turkish (my opinion) and bottom could be claro or even black walnut- my guess is crotch black walnut

How come Gordy is wrong on all the wood questions? The man has cut over a million gunstock blanks for the major gun companies over the last 30 years

Have the major gun companies made a million wood stocked guns over the last 30 years? anyone know?

    regards from Iowa
