McCain and Reid maneuver against the Constitution on gun issue

McCain Levin rules change would make it impossible to fight a motion to proceed to gun control legislation.
Senator John McCain and Senator Harry Reid conspire against the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution with backroom politics. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is still trying to rig the Senate rules so that President Barack Obama can get his anti-gun and anti-Constitution agenda passed. Reid is working on a "compromise" where certain Republicans like John McCain will help Reid do his bidding.

The Blaze reported Thursday that Vice President Joe Biden “guaranteed” to ailing Boston Mayor Tom Menino that sweeping gun control legislation would be passed by the end of January. How sweeping? A quick look at Feinstein’s semi-auto ban legislation suggests that up to 75% of all handguns currently in circulation would be banned, along with as much as 50% of all long guns.

Depending on its configuration, the AR-15 you already have would probably be treated like a machine gun. You would have to be fingerprinted, background checked by the FBI, and undergo a six-month license application process to keep it. And when you die, the government will seize it. If you don’t get an NFA license, you can expect the SWAT teams to descend on your house.

Under one new “compromise” being floated on Capitol Hill, the Senate would change its rules so that it could pass a gun ban with only 50 votes (plus the vote of Vice President Joe Biden). Legislators could also write the gun ban in a House-Senate conference committee on a "must-pass" bill, employing a tactic that is frequently used to pass controversial legislation. Democrats like West Virginia’s Joe Manchin, Nevada’s Harry Reid, and Pennsylvania’s Bob Casey -- who will not have to run for reelection for a while -- will cast “courageous” votes for this gun ban.

McCain was irritated at Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who worked with Gun Owners of America on a variety of pro-gun issues that slowed down his defense funding bill. So McCain would not lose any sleep if his rules “compromise” diminished our ability to kill anti-gun legislation in the future. McCain is now working with anti-gun Senator Carl Levin on a series of rules changes to make gun control a lot easier to pass.

The first McCain-Levin rules change would make it impossible to fight -- what's known in Washington as -- the "motion to proceed." Once the motion was adopted, the bill became amendable and Harry Reid could play “let’s-make-a-deal.” So this change would eliminate any real opportunity to set up a roadblock and keep anti-gun legislation from even being considered.

The second McCain-Levin rules change would make it easier to add gun control to a bill in conference. Currently, senators can block a House-Senate conference from considering an anti-gun bill. But if the McCain proposals are adopted, a "must-pass" bill could be sent to conference ... amended in conference with a draconian gun ban ... and then sent back to the House and the Senate on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.

The third McCain-Levin rules change would block any amendments except for those offered by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell or Floor Manager John McCain. All other senators would be left out in the cold.

Senator Rand Paul is planning to offer an amendment requiring a two-thirds vote in the Senate before any anti-gun measure can be passed. Many supporters of the Second Amendment are writing their senators demanding they oppose the McCain-Levin package making gun control easier to pass while supporting Rand Paul's amendment to require a two-thirds vote to enact further gun control in the nation.

Any change to the 2nd ammendment would require 2/3rd approval by both the House and the Senate, and 75% approval by all states in the Union.

    It's in the Constitution.

All other attempts are treasonous and against the Constitutional law of the United States.

    Mr Deankol;

I have worked with and around land surveyors, loggers, commercial fishermen, truck drivers and trapshooters etc. most of my working life. Even the foulest surveyor, after a week or two in the brush, covered with poison oak, bug bites, thorns and the like would clean up his act (mouth) after returning to civilization, particularly around ladies, kids, regular people, even being nice to their dogs. I think you owe Dicksie (Spolar??) and others on this forum an apology for your choice of words, however many of us might agree with your opinion but not your lack of candor.

I suspect you may be hearing from the moderator on this one.

If Obama tries to use executive order to alter or ignore the second amendment and the pansy Repubs and the pro gun Dems just stand there and take it ...................... there is going to be hell to pay. If you all think this country is divided now, just wait.

America is not like other countries............and almost 80% of us believe in the 2nd Amendment. We've managed to stave off most of the anti gun threat but this is the greatest threat yet. Unite. Fight back. Live FREE or DIE!

McCain has never been a friend of gunowners. He keeps screwing us over, then gets miffed when he loses his bid for the White House. This is his revenge on us.

Barry, As you probably know he has already said he'll do it by exec order if he can't get it through congress. It's time to reign in all this exec order "legislation".

At Setterman - the only possible legislation requiring 2/3 ratification of the Senate is a Treaty like the UN Small Arms - and it would be challenged on the grounds of nulliying the 2nd Amendment.

The reason that the scenario presented is possible is that it will be crafted to attack the 2nd much like the 1995 Clinton Bill but add two key provisions - one to fold all named guns under the 1968 legislation for fully automatic weapons made prior to 1968, prohibit the further license of all such firearms made after the Bill passes, tax and register the existing arms - then obliterate ownership by raising taxes to untenable levels.

It should fail on multiple levels but who knows.

It would create a separate class (military and Law enforcement) which may not be required to pass background checks, finderprinting, taxes, etc like you and me: It would provide for 'permission' from the Government to enjoy a Right created by God according to the Declaration of Independence and the USSC - and separate from Federal over reach; it would set a precedent to 'register and tax' other Rights like the First re: religion, peacable assembly, purchase and distribution of named 'dangerous literature' etc.

As to McCain - what can you expect when the same guy supported and co-sponsored Patriot Act I and II and NDAA permitting the Federal Government to secretly, without Habeas Corpus or any formal charges, name you as a Terrorist and detain you indefinitely (or kill you) without trial or defense by counsel or appeal. If Martial law is declared ALL of us (firearms owners) could be declared enemies of the State and executed if charged with Rebellion or Terrorism (remember - you can't appeal it or get a trial by your peers).

This is the kind of guy that votes for NDAA with eyes wide open... and the first baby step was Bush in 2007 so this is a huge Bi Partisan effort with only a few like Paul raising the awareness.
